WHAT IS A GAS PRICING MECHANISM ? : A gas pricing mechanism is the method or system used to determine the price of natural gas in a market. Breakdown of Gas Pricing Mechanisms in Different Countries( Nigeria not included here) The major gas pricing mechanisms used globally include: -Oil-Indexed Pricing -Gas-on-Gas Competition -(Hub-Based Pricing) -Regulated Pricing -Netback Pricing -Hybrid Pricing Now, coming to Nigeria we use a regulatory gas pricing mechanism. WHAT'S REGULATORY GAS PRICING MECHANISM? : A regulated gas pricing mechanism is a system where the government or a regulatory authority controls or sets the price of natural gas instead of allowing the market alone (supply and demand) to determine the price. In simple terms, the government decides: -How much gas should be sold, -Who buys it, -And at what price. Now you know why the government can increase or reduce prices of gas anytime. Do you think we should abolish this system where the government fix the price as they like or we should follow other countries to use those mentioned systems above ?
