The people most likely to be against immigration are usually the least likely to accept the reality of climate change or the need to do anything about it. Just wait until they find out what’s coming. jonathonporritt.com/wp-content/upl…

Only in Australia do people think nuclear power is a culture war matter or reject it for being "right wing." We're talking about technology here not rhetoric. Trying to reduce energy policy to partisan politics is completely absurd. 🙄

@IonaItalia @MLiebreich Can you give or link to a convincing account of why nuclear is more affordable in the long run after all costs accounted for? Give @MLiebreich a hearing at least? He is one of the foremost experts in the field, puts his money where his mouth is & not fixated on literal Net Zero%.

@TrailsAndAlesUK If you’re only in it to win it (or get close) then once you know that’s not possible it’s a much better use of your resources to bin it off and start prepping for the next race without a week of rest and recovery to get through?

@moving_charlie ‘The market is in real trouble.’ What does that even mean? Some participants in the emergent phenomenon we call “the market” are not getting what they want right now. Somebody always does.

The UK housing market is cooling due to weak buyer demand and rising supply. Rightmove reported the biggest June asking price drop in 14 years (-0.6%). Sales agreed fell ~8% YoY in early June. High mortgage rates, lower confidence, and economic/geopolitical uncertainty are keeping buyers cautious while more listings compete for fewer deals. Sellers are cutting prices. Activity is sluggish but forecasts point to flat or modest 2026 outcomes rather than a sharp crash.

@Alan_Couzens Definitive science sounds like a contradiction in terms. Current evidence based consensus and the wisdom of decades obviously not very catchy! ‘Unlocking’ sounds more actionable ‘Practical’ sounds a bit boring but less intimidating.

Actually, while we're all here... 😊 I can't do it as a poll because the text is too long, but which subtitle do you like? The Endurance Code: a) Unlocking the Science of Maximal Athletic Development b) A Practical Guide to the Science of Maximal Athletic Development c) The Definitive Science of Maximal Athletic Development If helpful, it's ~780 big pages with a good mix of technical and practical content - think Lore of Running only bigger 😊 Thanks all 🙏

Final read-through of the book is underway before heading to the printers. 📚 Sometimes I wish I had less to say. Still, I'm enjoying reading it again after four years of working on it, so I guess that's a positive sign. Thanks to everyone for your support and your patience 🙏

@bristol_citizen Inkie is just butt hurt & whining because they used a London agency & didn’t shoehorn in some tiresome decades old Bristol “street art” cliches. I’m sure that if you had told him it was the work of a local artist he would have praised it. Bristol tries to be both smug and edgy.

@czarOfHealth Pull ups. My ability to do 20 pushups lasts longer without practice. 10 Pull ups goes down to 4 or 5 very quickly without practice.

What's more impressive: 20 push-ups or 10 strict pull-ups? Most people can't do 5 pull-ups without kipping like they are in a circus act. Be honest in the comments.

@s8mb Net zero is an idiotic name for what will actually be Net 15%. 15% will be good enough for the climate and great for the economy. Zero emissions is impossible, unnecessary and a disaster for the economy.

Thomas Piketty and a large team have just proposed a worldwide tax & economic revolution: ⦿ Cap rich-nation growth near zero ⦿ Cut work hours in half ⦿ Cut material consumption by 1/3 ⦿ 10% of GDP going into a global fund ⦿ Tax wealth to essentially end it It's potty.
Thomas Piketty@PikettyWIL

The world today is characterized by large-scale inequalities. And a climate crisis is looming over us. We urgently need a new vision for global progress in the 21st Century. One that grounds human development and equality in planetary habitability. What would it take to achieve high prosperity and equality while remaining within planetary boundaries? The World Inequality Lab is very excited to launch the #GlobalJusticeReport. [1/7]

@Alan_Couzens If you’re moderately fit but you left it too late in the evening even for a jog then a brisk walk will still allow you to sleep well afterwards.

Assuming you're moderately fit.. Jogging doesn't increase your cortisol, it often *lowers* it. If you're not moderately fit... You should (primarily) walk until you get moderately fit!

@DanNeidle @Jan_Leeming Im not sure the snark is necessary, politicians have for decades given out the impression that the state pension is something you pay into in a way thats different to general taxation

No didn’t go that far. Our road tax doesn’t appear to go into roads - just like all the tax we’ve paid towards our pensions which wasn’t ring fenced amd invested for them - so now it’s today’s taxes which go into pensions. It’s not right.
Glyn Gillard@GillardGlyn

@Jan_Leeming Did you get as far Devon Jan? The roads are disgusting, where the hell is our money going.
