The strain from this outbreak has now been confirmed as meningitis B. This isn't in the current UK teenage vaccine schedule (perhaps that will now change...) theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/m…

Dear students in the UK, if you haven't had your teenage meningitis vaccine or aren't sure if you have had it, PLEASE arrange with your GP to get vaccinated nhs.uk/vaccinations/m… It helps prevent tragic deaths like those that have occured recently in Kent.

@jimwaterson - I flag merely because the council are advocating £40M of 'savings' (aka 'cuts'} whilst planning to spend more than a quarter of a million on reopening a ford so the local golfers can get to the first tee 5 minutes quicker, maybe one of the councillors plays there?

unfortunately i very much feel affirming to students that being asked a question in class is anxiety-inducing and is something that it's valid to opt out of only makes them far more anxious in the long term

As a teacher, I struggle with the strategy of randomly calling on students to demonstrate understanding and to increase engagement. I hated it so much when I was a kid because I had crazy high anxiety and was terrified of getting an answer wrong in front of my peers.
