@myth_pilot Siri is a broken product, and the fact Apple has done nothing to fix it to do basic tasks… it’s saddening and laughable in equal measure.

@DrewTailored Get on a plane? I mean it’s good to experience another park and all.

@TheCinesthetic This is when you’re told to add SPOILERS at the start of such comments. Thanks for ruining it for those who haven’t watched it.

John Krasinski’s death in A Quiet Place (2018) is a straight heroic sacrifice. He looks at his kids, makes the call, and lets out that scream knowing exactly what it costs.
cinesthetic.@TheCinesthetic
What's the most heroic scene in cinema?

@DrewDisneyDude As much as I love the parks, this is how they get you- they sell you not tickets, but emotions. While that’s great, the product you get is under the quality they’ve been known for, and you still buy it, at a premium.

@eurofounder I’m not American, but I pay less for my mortgage in central London, not a studio, also safe and, by the sounds of it, more joyful than I’d find it there. Yikes.

Things I'm not allowed to do in my rented apartment in Germany:
1. No drilling after 3:30pm. People need rest
2. No AC (kills climate)
3. No cooking fish after 8pm
4. No guests staying more than 2 consecutive nights without registering with the city (tourist tax)
5. No candles (fire risk)
6. No pets
7. No washing machine use on Sundays
8. No showering longer than 10 minutes (saving water)
Of course Americans will read this and scream "freedom." But it is safe, regulated, and predictable
And I only pay €1,850 for my spacious 29sqm studio, a steal

@joeroganhq “Change your body so that you earn love” is a shitty message - more so using AI slop for it.

@AloeWhale @Bzubyk Because it would debunk the white saviour / right wing narrative to show it’s not a thing.

I have spent a lot of time in Mexico including Vallarta.
Here's how things work. The tourist cities have always been relatively safe but the cartel influence is everywhere. The taxi industry, bars and restaurants. If a tourist buys drugs it is 100% certain that it originates from a cartel. The deal has always been that cartels get access to tourist dollars in exchange for keeping the peace.
For decades local officials have done informal deals to buy off cartels. It was always the easy way out until today, when it wasn't.
The acceptance of cartels has resulted in widespread corruption that has infected almost every institution in Mexico. Criminal organizations do not control territory in a country without officialdom being part of the problem.
The President of Mexico was flown to a naval ship because they couldn't guarantee her safety on land. Think about that in the context of who wields power.
Despite the bloodshed and violence that is sure to follow today's events it may mark a new beginning for Mexico. The old rules of official accommodation broke today and the Mexican economy is on the brink.
I can't imagine the US or any country allowing their citizens to be exposed to such violence. If foreign nationals are killed I think it's safe to say all bets are off.
Mexicans have long suffered under cartels and Mexico has been the distribution hub for fentanyl and other deadly drugs flooding our streets. Pray for the street level security forces putting themselves in harms way today and let's hope that their superiors have finally seen the light.
The status quo can't hold.
