🔸Yes, we have amazing talent but I don’t know whether #ZimRadio will ever be as great as it was in the days of Peter Johns, Simon Parkinson, Kudzi Marudza, Musi Khumalo, Kelvin Sifelani and Eunice Goto. One could literally sit and listen to radio all day, everyday and be entertained. Each station, whether radio 1 or radio 3 had its own DNA and there was something for everyone. Nowadays, I sometimes feel like they pick up an abandoned mixtape from wherever and just play it vombodisappear zvavo. Sometimes, during prime time on what you think is a hip and happening station for the young, you have a random n’anga giving illegal advice and you wonder whether they realize that we are actually listening. They barely play Winky D yet he’s hugely popular. A lot of the same boring songs are recycled until they’re as stale as over-chewed Dandy gum. No matter how much technology evolves, a lot of us will always love radio and hope guaranteed quality will be a thing again soon.♥️🎶🇿🇼

I posted about today’s weather in Britain, which led to school and road closures, and train disruptions. However, the focus of the post shifted to my car, so let us turn it into a teachable moment. I am a 53-year-old journalist who began practising at 18 and have won numerous accolades in my career. A Maserati Levante costs just £84,000, I say JUST because in a normal society, such an amount is easily affordable for someone of my age and level of education. The fact that the post turned into a discussion about my car highlights the desperate levels of poverty in our country. In a normal country, every journalist should afford a Maserati Levante, or any such car. This is why I fight for a better Zimbabwe, I know the potential that our country has to provide for its citizens with a decent standard of living. For example, in 1982, my sister who was a teacher, bought her brand new Datsun Pulsar from Puzey and Payne in Gweru. Almost every other teacher had a car when we were at primary school, in both city and rural schools. In 1983, my cousin, also a teacher, purchased a house in Marlborough. When I was 29, I walked into CABS and secured a mortgage for my Chisipite home. These were normal achievements in Zimbabwe, they have become abnormal because of poverty of leadership, corruption and incompetence, that is why you have miserable adults sitting on a Twitter space for hours to discuss how a 53-year-old man could afford a home or a car 28 years ago. That alone shows you the state of mind of our nation, beaten into believing that you shouldn’t be able to afford a decent life. The stark contrast between the economic prosperity of Zimbabwe’s past and the current financial hardships caused by corrupt rule and faced by many in our country that include 95% unemployment and the highest inflation in the world is painfully shocking! Due to the devastating mismanagement of our country by ZANUPF, whose leaders continue to loot without remorse, we view a 53-year-old journalist owning a Maserati Levante as a spectacle. News presenters earn anything up to £800,000 a year in Britain, they don’t earn anything remotely close to that in Zimbabwe because we are not a normal country. amp.theguardian.com/media/2006/apr… In normal countries, journalists drive Porsches, Jaguars, Range Rovers, and Maseratis. They can afford them, it is just a matter of choice. By my age, one should be asset rich owning homes not a home, yet Zimbabweans are instead caught in a cycle of poverty. The real question is, why? Zimbabweans are poor because, instead of fighting for themselves, they fight for politicians on both sides of the aisle. Two years ago, I facilitated healthcare training for 23 Zimbabweans to move to the UK, covering their costs and arranging internships with my doctor friends in Zimbabwe. I never charged a single penny and declined any attempts to pay me, telling them the best way to repay me was to help others in the same way. When I tried to arrange free specialist healthcare for Zimbabwe’s impoverished seniors (your grandfathers and grandmothers), I faced fierce opposition online from opposition politicians who thought I wanted to occupy their space. Clowns organised Twitter spaces to sabotage my efforts, prioritising petty politics over helping the poor. This is what Dr. Solomon Guramatunhu means when he days a nation’s leadership is a mirror of that society. This reflects the tragic reality that Zimbabweans do not fight for themselves, but for insecure politicians who claim that I, Hopewell Chin’ono, aspire to be a politician. I only want as many of us to have the same opportunities that I have had in life. Zimbabwe’s problems are NOT insurmountable, even with ZANUPF in power, a lot can be done instead of coming to Twitter to mourn daily. What is needed is exposure, leadership competence, professional networks, and the will to act in the national interest. If Zimbabweans prioritised fighting for their future, they too could drive Maseratis and own homes. People YOUR age and with YOUR education are driving Maseratis elsewhere. Learn to fight for yourselves, not for politicians! I have no interest in being a politician, all I want to see is a society where dreams are fulfilled and talent is not killed. In doing so, you have to tell certain truths that will hurt egos, like that there is no political party that is competent to do basic things, like just making sure that its supporters get the support they need when they get into trouble for supporting it. ZANUPF is a lost cause, but how do you explain a situation where prisoners sit in a prison for months and there is not even ONE fundraiser to help their families, except for one set up when I made so much noise on Twitter, and then it was never retweeted by the leaders. We have leaders who, instead of joining hands with their supporters, spend their time insulting those who want to help, throwing cheap jabs laced with lies. That state of mind makes us think driving a Maserati is a big deal, when in fact, what should be a big deal is giving our people opportunities to realise their dreams and drive any car of their choice like what Freeman Chari is doing building school blocks. Those kids will get a chance to go to university and drive a Maserati, something that was made possible by a Freeman Chari ignoring ZANUPF and getting on with it, that is what real leadership looks like! In 2019, I set up Save Our Hospitals and brought in medical consumables worth millions of dollars into public hospitals in Zimbabwe. However, this year, I was attacked over it by people who have never donated even an orange to a hospital patient. It is that poverty of mind that I mentioned that has destroyed our society-SHAISANO. We are a society with a lot of petty minded people, what my Jamaican in laws call bad minded people (bad mind ago kill dem), I hope that we can start fighting for ourselves and not for politicians. The choice is yours to make, you ether fight for yourself and end up with the finer things that life has to offer, or you continue fighting for politicians and remain poor!

“Zimbabwe which this year lost 46 people to GBV, joins the rest of the world in commemorating the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which started last Saturday and ends on December 10. Unlike in the past when men were silent victims of abuse, there is an increase in the number of them reporting cases against women, with 2463 reports compared to 1 782 cases that were reported last year, according to the police.” chronicle.co.zw/46-killed-in-g…
