The models all agree that this is coming and the UK will again push 35C, France 44C and Spain 46C. Summer, once a time to look forward to, will become the season to fear, if it isn't already where you are

Alors pourquoi vous demander de ne pas banaliser les 40°C ? Parce que nous, humains, pouvons nous abriter, nous rafraîchir et nous protéger. Le vrai problème, ce sont nos forêts. Les arbres possèdent une capacité d'adaptation thermique, mais au-delà de leurs limites apparaissent brûlures, défoliation (chute des feuilles), mortalité de rameaux, voire dépérissement. Nous ne sommes pas les seuls à subir le changement climatique : les écosystèmes, dont nous sommes responsables de l'altération, sont encore plus durement touchés. En seulement sept ans, la vitesse de dépérissement des arbres a augmenté de 80 %.

I'm going to upset a few people with this one... The climate is changing. It always has! But I don't believe we're facing a man-made climate crisis. I believe we're being sold one. Earth has gone through ice ages, warm periods and times with no polar ice caps long before humans were driving cars. CO₂ makes up around 0.04% of our atmosphere, and the UK's contribution to global emissions is tiny. Should we stop polluting? Absolutely. Should we be handing governments more power, more taxes and more control over our lives in the name of "saving the planet"? Absolutely not. Watch the video before you tell me I'm wrong.

Can’t believe what we’re about to experience tbh. It does make me wonder what we’d be seeing if these synoptics were 4-6 weeks later, when temperatures are at their highest on average. Multiple consecutive days in the low 40s would be a certainty I’d think. Crazy stuff really

I am making a complaint to the Commerce Commission about the Green Party’s claim that “the rich only pay 9% tax.” This statement is misleading. The figure is not a normal tax rate on taxable income. It is based on a broader measure called “economic income”, which includes capital gains, including accrued or unrealised gains. That matters. Income is income. A paper gain is not income. If someone owns a property, a business, or shares, and the value goes up on paper, that does not mean they have cash in their bank account. It does not mean they have sold anything. It does not mean they have received income. The value could go down again. It may never be realised. So when the Greens compare actual tax paid against taxable income plus unrealised paper gains, then tell the public “the rich only pay 9% tax”, they are not making a clean or honest comparison. They are comparing different things. A more honest statement would be: “On an economic-income measure, which includes capital gains and unrealised valuation movements, the effective tax rate is estimated at around 9%.” That would be accurate. But that is not the slogan. The slogan is designed to make people angry. It is designed to make people believe wealthy New Zealanders are only paying 9% tax on normal income. That is not true. Taxable income is not the same as economic income. Realised income is not the same as unrealised capital gain. Cash received is not the same as a paper valuation movement. The Green Party is taking a technical tax calculation and turning it into a dishonest political slogan. Political parties are entitled to argue for higher taxes. They are entitled to argue for a wealth tax. They are entitled to argue for a capital gains tax. But they should not be entitled to mislead the public to get there. Words matter. Facts matter. If a business misled customers like this, the Commerce Commission would care. Political parties should be held to the same standard. In my view, this entire campaign is dishonest and misleading.

Europeans are realizing they’ve been lied to. Firsthand, they’re learning that: -Americans water their lawns with drinking water. -Fast food abundance is next level. -Americans are friendlier than them. -Almost zero homeless on the streets. -Zero gun crimes. -Everyone has a fast car. -Freeway system is out of a sci-fi movie. -Average American is extremely happy. -Portion sizes are unreal. -Free soda refills. -Beautiful, state of the art hospitals in every city. I hope thousands are radicalized as they go back to Europe. Maybe they will demand real capitalism from their communist leaders. Or maybe they will just be smart and move here. If you love America, we have room for you!

@Suitandtie9999 hmm....this might be too low - UK equivalent is roughly $288k/year at 45% Think they need to add a personal allowance section for the first 25k of income to be tax-exempt as well. Those on the lower income would need all the additional help they can get.

Chloe Swarbrick and the Greens have declared that anyone earning over $160,000 a year is rich. It doesn’t matter if you’re a single parent with a big mortgage and children to support, or a single-income family doing their best to get by—you’re rich according to the Greens, and you will be worse off under their policies. Incredibly, Swarbrick then claims these same people—who stand to lose the most—are more than happy to pay even higher taxes.
