In the same on-campus interview trip, one faculty member pulled me aside to ask how I could be so productive and another one told me point blank that I was too junior for the position they flew me out for (they chaired the search committee).

This absolutely happens. When I was on the job market, during a flyout, a faculty took me to lunch and asked “how could you be so productive?” I answered very honestly “I just work very long hours every day.” He said “ Are you telling us you don’t have a personal life?” And I didn’t get the job lol

Yeah FWIW the College Republicans I went to school with in Arkansas all talked openly like this and have since gone on to land senior staff jobs in Congress, at conservative think tanks and publications, and, in some cases, hold elected office.

Went to a bunch of playoff games in 2022 and never paid more than $100 for a ticket, always lower bowl.

Game 1 tickets were $350 for standing room only, $550+ for a seat in the upper bowl on secondary markets.
You can’t have bedlam at the bank when the crowd is full of people paying that much for an NLDS ticket.

Phillies need to just handout free tickets to the wildest, most insane people for tomorrow’s game. Give them to people stumbling out of McGillin’s after the Birds game today. The “four hours of hell” aura is long gone. 10-cent beer night maybe. Do anything to bring the energy.
