Malachi Fields was a player the Giants "coveted," per GM Joe Schoen. Giants had him in their cluster of players for Round 2. So they paid a steep price for Fields when he was available in the middle of Round 3. Impressive catch radius. Big body (6-4, 218). The different body type Giants wanted for their wide receiving corps. Schoen referred to Fields as their power forward. The Giants also thought that Fields was the "best receiver down there" at the Senior Bowl earlier this year.

The Giants drafting of Notre Dame WR Malachi Fields was considered a home run by @CBSSports and given an A+ grade. “Fields' perceived lack of speed apparently held him back through the draft process, but this is a 6-foot-5 pass-catcher who can make you pay if you leave him one-on-one in coverage. He averaged 15 yards per catch over his collegiate career and caught 16 touchdowns. A great target for Jaxson Dart.”
