COMING SOON: My Lord of the Rings in Concert Experience 🎻
One of the most beautiful ideas in Tolkien’s legendarium is that the world itself began with music.
“Then Ilúvatar said: ‘Behold your Music!’” — J.R.R. Tolkien, The Silmarillion, “Ainulindalë”
From the very beginning of Arda, creation was not just spoken into existence, it was sung. The Ainur shaped the world through harmony, theme, and variation. That idea permeates through “The Lord of the Rings” as well: the sense that Middle-earth itself has a kind of melody to it. Its beauty, sorrow, hope, and triumph all feel like movements within a greater symphony.
That’s why the music of Howard Shore captures Tolkien’s world so perfectly. His score doesn’t just accompany the story, it feels like it belongs to the creational music of Middle-earth itself. It carries both the heart and the epic scale that Tolkien imagined.
This weekend I had the incredible honor of being invited by the official Lord of the Rings in Concert to attend the performance here in Chicago — and it honestly moved me more than I expected. Hearing the score performed live while the film played felt like experiencing the story all over again for the first time.
As a professional photographer, I was also given the chance to capture some behind-the-scenes moments during the show — something I’m really excited to share!
More photos and reflections from the concert coming soon. Stay tuned. It truly felt like being transported back to Middle-earth. 🥹
