The Lupita Nyong’o Helen of Troy Farce: How the Decaying West Uses Black Faces to Appropriate and Rewrite Greek History
It is already strange enough for a Black woman like Lupita Nyong’o to be cast as Helen of Troy - the iconic beauty whose face supposedly launched a thousand Greek ships.
But the deeper issue is what this casting reveals: a deliberate Western attempt to appropriate Greek cultural heritage while rewriting history for ideological convenience.
All the central characters in The Odyssey and the Trojan War cycle - Helen, Odysseus, Achilles, Agamemnon - were ancient Greeks. They belonged to a specific Mediterranean people whose descendants still exist today in large numbers.
Yet modern Hollywood and Western media increasingly treat Greek civilization as generic “Western” property that anyone can claim, while often viewing actual Greeks as peripheral or “Eastern.”
This is cultural appropriation dressed up as progress. They blur the lines with vague terms like “Western” or “diverse,” then proceed to colonize someone else’s ancestral story. It is the same pattern we see repeatedly: first detach the culture from its people, then assert ownership over it.
Imagine the outrage if a major Japanese samurai epic cast Black actors as central Japanese warriors - and critics were told it was “unrealistic” to complain. Or worse, if producers insisted only Indian actors should play samurai because it was somehow “more historically accurate.”
The hypocrisy would be deafening. Yet that is exactly the double standard at play here.
Lupita Nyong’o is a talented actress, but casting her as Helen is not bold representation - it is Western expediency. It allows the industry to tick diversity boxes while further detaching Greek mythology from its European Mediterranean roots.
This isn’t inclusion. It is erasure through substitution. It’s using a Black face to make ancient European history more palatable to contemporary ideological demands.
As someone from a culture that has watched its heritage steadily diluted, repackaged, and reinterpreted through colonial religion, distorted educational systems, and heavily curated historical narratives, this pattern feels painfully familiar.
Greek civilization is not generic “Western” content for global consumption and recasting. It belongs to the Greek people - just as Chinese history belongs to the Chinese.
If you want to tell Greek stories, cast Greeks. Anything else is not progress - it is historical vandalism wearing the mask of diversity.
My little male cousin has been behaving like a girl since birth no matter how we try to stop it. He walks like a girl, talks like a girl, plays more with female classmates, etc. What is this condition called? And any solution? He will be 11 years old this year.
@Eva_Sommie The people sexualising an 11year old are the problem. Bring effeminate does not mean bring gay, treat him normally as a boy but if you expose him early to the sexual side of his nature it will just cause curiosity and insecurity which will affect him in the long run.
@georgediano The step father did his part we should applaud him not call him a weak man, the boy is just a loser. I grew up with my step father and I respect him more than my biological father.
This ninja is called Andy Deh. His biological dad was the late MC Fullstop, but for over 20 years, MC Fullstop was not in the picture. But as always , this world is never short of SIMPS. Another man stepped up as his dad after marrying his mum and accepted him as his own son. According to his own narration while speaking in a podcast, the man gave him & his siblings the best in life as a family because he was wealthy.
He has always bragged how he didn't grow up in poverty in some of his videos. The father who stepped up offered him the best education but he failed him because he was into Kanamba speciioo, drugs and jabaa. His drag peddling hustle even led him to jail, but his biological father stepped in & rescued him.
Today, he is calling the dad who stepped up "weak" and "fala" because he brought him up knowing he wasn't his biological son. Yani, you think someone is a fool because he was there for you when the real dad didn't care? Another day to remind men NEVER to raise another man's cumzigo. Only date a single mother for survival, eat her money eat TauTau, then murife as soon as you've hit the target profit.
@topsytpff Everyone is just picking their favorite, let me be different. Not a fan but Dave's stories are more easily graspable, for the other 3, you have to be so focused in order to get what they are conveying.
At this point, Lynda Dane is not even competing locally anymore. She’s looking like the best female DJ in East Africa right now….her confidence, the transitions, the crowd control… she’s really in her own lane lately🙌🏽🙏🏿🫶🏽👌👌
Gentlemen, standing before you is none other than Mpenzi Chokuu a.k.a Malaya kwa Ubora Wake. From a distance, any sane man would think this is a fine, soft-spoken slayqueen imported directly from Seychelles for bwana Kasongo. But behold, Chokuu is a man with a Fully matured Makagare, na inasemekana amebeba muzinga hapana machesoo.
Chokuu was once an ordinary hustler in Kisumu doing construction jobs. But as you all know, mjengo life is harder than passing a sobriety test after a weekend in Juja. Today you’re carrying cement, tomorrow the foreman is insulting your entire bloodline because you misplaced one brick.
When life became unbearable, our boy packed his small bag, two jeans, one Arsenal jersey, and dreams of survival, then headed straight to Mombasa to become a beach boy. One afternoon while applying sunscreen on tourists & pretending to know German, Chokuu was approached by an elderly mzungu man who had retired from Ikus and upgraded to team Sundus.
The old man flashed some euros. Chokuu looked at the money, looked at his economic situation, looked at his sitting apparatus and said “Wamuthede ni fire si fire.” Our boy accepted the deal at a lightning speed. He told himself one small trip to Dogo Kundu area wouldn’t hurt compared to the suffering of maisha ya hustler.
But my brothers, what started as survival slowly became a full-time profession. Chokuu became so dedicated to customer service that the old mzungu decided the young man deserves a promotion. Next thing you know, his visa was approved!
From carrying simiti in Kisumu to becoming an international export in Germany. Immigration officers approved his Visa very fast because of his Occupation as an Advanced Backside Consultant,, Chesaa!!
Unfortunately, life is unpredictable. Six months later, the old mzungu kicked the famous bucket and went to meet his ancestors in Sayuni. Chokuu was left stranded in Germany with no sponsor, no plan, and rent waiting like a hungry landlord in Mukuru kwa Njenga.
But our boy refused to go back to poverty. He simply said If life gives you lemons, upgrade the business model.
He went for hormonal injection to lower his testosterone, did a BBL procedure to increase mafrrrrrrmbanya & did a plastic surgery to install silicone boobs. Our boy transformed so much that men now lose concentration immediately he passes.
Today Chokuu is one of the most outsourced trans Milaya in Germany. Appointments are fully booked like NTSA during driving test season. Men are spending euros left and right thinking they found a premium European babe, only to discover they’re dealing with a former Site operator wa Kisumu affordable housing Phase 2.
Lemme tell you Maina, this Kasongo economy has forced many people to change careers… but Chokuu changed departments, operating system, and even motherboard. Aki ya Mungu hii ni mambo Kanii. Anyway, kama kawa siku zote sisi walala hoii hatuna maoni, Letu Jicho tu.👀
@malik_jack99108@NataniaMarshall Am African, we have no white leaders. White donors are always sending money over here but guess what happens, just guess.
