It’s unfortunate, but @IHSA_IL just killed high school baseball in Illinois. It’s sad. I have lots of good friends who are HS coaches, and no one has been more committed to covering spring baseball than I over the course of 19 years. But any aspirational baseball player will NEVER play baseball for its HS ever again if this rule isn’t changed. Why would they? With the college transfer portal, the plight of the HS player getting recruited has become infinitely more difficult, and this makes it nearly impossible for IL players. USA National Team. Area Code Games. Future Games. PG. NTIS. Basically any formalized game of status is illegal. Common sense needs to prevail. If it doesn’t, though, travel teams will unite, @PrepBaseballIL & @PBRTournaments will put together leagues & tournaments at high-level venues across the state, utilizing our full media, data collection and scouting apparatus to put on the best high school baseball experience, bar none. I don’t want that to happen. But it will, if this isn’t changed. Play on this summer.
