🚨 BREAKING: FIA and F1 manufacturers and have agreed to a last-minute rule change for qualifying this weekend. The single lap recharge limit — which was originally going to be 9MJ for Suzuka, will be dropped to 8MJ as teams and drivers felt qualifying was becoming too dependent on energy deployment. This should make qualifying laps “perfectly optimised by software” and more dependent on how the driver manages the lap. #F1 #JapaneseGP

My opinion is that the Macarena wing could very well stay on the car this weekend provided that the actuator mechanism is reliable enough to last the race distance. Closing DRS into T1 has been done manually around Suzuka for ages, and the 2nd SM zone this weekend seems to end a fair bit before 130R. No added workload and room to mitigate the issues under braking seen in China.
