While ambulances burn @joshglancy will, thankfully, be preparing another supercilious piece regretting the hysteria of the Jewish hoi-polloi, Engels-like dissociating himself from lumpen Jewry to again garner the peer back-slapping of @DAaronovitch & @alexmassie , while brushing aside the learned critique of @ShMMor. Here on the hard left we love to hear that the Kristallnacht echoes of the smashed windows of a not-even-Jewish-owned London cafe are OTT & we cannot wait for your next offering, Josh! #FreePalestine

@AaronBastani Aaron, would it not be worth holding fire before promoting Lowkey's suggestion that this was a false flag? All manner of possible explanations for this apparent lapse that don't involve Mossad setting fire to Jewish ambulances, not least arms-length criminals making a mistake

@YouAreLobbyLud Please take a moment to consider why your response to an antisemitic arson attack, quite possibly terror, is to try to win a days-old argument about a column in The Guardian. Yes, I’m deeply troubled by this appalling incident near my own home. Also stand by what I wrote.

This is a deeply shocking antisemitic arson attack.  My thoughts are with the Jewish community who are waking up this morning to this horrific news.  Antisemitism has no place in our society.  Anyone with any information must come forward to the police.

We are investigating an antisemitic arson attack on Jewish ambulances in Golders Green. We know this will cause significant concern in the local community and are stepping up patrols and engaging with faith leaders. Read more here: mynewsdesk.com/uk/metpoliceuk…

@BrynHarris6 Inclined to agree with that. But I don't argue for Rejoin and at present the government doesn't either. Rather a closer, more profitable alignment, in the absence of any better ideas.

The rejoin argument is nonsense on stilts. It baffles me intelligent people buy into it. Polls on EU membership mean *nothing* while the matter isn't a live political issue. Reopen the issue & leavers will win the argument standing on their heads. 1/ thetimes.com/comment/column…

Incredibly balanced, sensible and realistic column this week by @joshglancy. It is nice for a British writer to appear in a British paper and reflect on the EU side of this conversation for once. thetimes.com/comment/column…

@sydcr9 @thetimes I don't think we should rejoin it. I do think a closer and more profitable relationship would be worthwhile.

@joshglancy @thetimes The EU isn’t working, why would we want to join that failure.

@ShMMor @jenn26265 I wouldn’t call the entire staff of the Daily Express racist, that would be foolish. Ditto The Guardian, as the person I was contradicting did.

@YouAreLobbyLud The purpose is to inject a sense of proportion and rationality and self-awareness into this debate, so that we don't descend into a howling void of permacrisis and paranoia.

That's because there's a high level of nastiness, meaning Jewish buildings and events need security guards, attacks are frequent and have culminated in Bondi and the level of Jew hate and denial of Jewish suffering in the media is off the scale. I don't know what purpose this "calm-mongering" from you serves. It just seems nonsensical and self-harming.

@londonette @joshglancy Yes, a very silly piece. Not as if this is a one-off. Remember the Steve Bell cartoon? When was that? Five years ago?

@joshglancy Who said anything about banning? It's just a weird source to turn to as an authority in a discussion between Jews. Fairly obviously, I would have thought.

@joshglancy Thanks for the New Testament quotation. Definitely not a weird choice.
