Vukovar surrendered exactly 30 years ago today. Still the killings and war crimes continued. My photo of Croatian National Guard defending the road out of town (Sept. 1991). International and media interest in what was happening to Vukovar at the time was pitiful.

What Ed Balls (ironic since he has none) is basically saying on the terrorist attack in Golders Green: "Do you think this might be your fault because some of you made mean comments about Londons Muslim mayor?"

@londonette @joshglancy Yes, a very silly piece. Not as if this is a one-off. Remember the Steve Bell cartoon? When was that? Five years ago?

@joshglancy I take your point Josh but I don’t think you’ve taken into account all the pent up rage about the Guardian going back decades. The Gail’s piece was just the last straw for a lot of people. I mean, this is a paper that still happily publishes Owen Jones

@drsanjoykumar A month or so ago, we were left amazed and disgusted about the behaviour of the leadership of the West Midlands Police. Now the Nottinghamshire Police. What is going on? Where is the integrity?

A national disgrace… “I don’t know”, “not that I can remember”, was all we got from Chief Constable Kate Meynell. Her son was in the horrible WhattsApp group. No acceptance, comment. Candour?? By any officer in that group. So this is normal for you. Begrudging acceptance of wrong doing. Reluctant apology to @nottslive With so much your force did wrong, you should be ashamed. But not you, you portrayed a sense of ‘cant be bothered’. At press briefings, you say, didn’t look at or examine detail ??? Really??? Made a mockery of answering questions at a statutory inquiry. DISGRACE
Oliver Pridmore@OliverPridmore

A significant moment in the Nottingham attacks inquiry. Nottinghamshire Police's Chief Constable has admitted it was a "mistake" to complain about @nottslive to @IpsoNews after we reported about being made to sign an NDA. @nat_fahy @JoshHartley70 nottinghampost.com/news/nottingha…

Unsurprisingly, Sky News’ intrepid reporter Dominic Waghorn arrived in Tehran and wants the world to know how resilient the regime is, noting that Ayatollah Khamenei has “been replaced by his son” while, for some reason, not mentioning that the IRGC is maintaining “strategic ambiguity” about whether he is dead or alive.
Saul Sadka@Saul_Sadka

Dominic Waghorn, senior editor at Qatar-funded Sky News, argued that unfiltered Hamas claims “undermined the Israeli storyline,” while Arbel Yehud, Amit Soussana, Rom Braslavski, and dozens of others, including children, were being sexually assaulted in tunnels. Never forgive.

Good morning you gorgeous little petals of loveliness. Sunrise over the Thames at Chiswick in London. I took this some time ago. As I stood there very early one morning in the peace and quiet, I had the whole world to myself. Then the birds took flight and there was the photo. Speaking of peace; my top tip for enjoying your day, is to wake up, press like or retweet on my posts, have a scroll through the other stuff on here, but not for more than two minutes or you’ll become angry and your day will be ruined. Instead, go out and enjoy the beauty all around. Unless you’re in Whitechapel, in which case you’ll have to go somewhere else to find the beauty all around :) Have a wonderful Friday.

Edward Heath sacked Powell. Kemi Badenoch defended Timothy on the basis he was defending British values. In this column for Middle East Eye I argue that last week was the defining moment for Badenoch's Tory Party as a cesspit of hatred and bigotry: middleeasteye.net/opinion/nick-t…

What’s the opposite of the Pulitzer Prize? It should be given to @DominicWaghorn and the UK’s @SkyNews who are busy doing the Ayatollah’s work in Iran. 93 million ordinary Iranians don’t have internet. But Dominic does - and while their voice is suppressed he, a guest of the regime, is showcasing their propaganda. He deserves the Golden Raspberry of Journalism. But it’s not funny. It’s deadly.

@Hemadnazari Last time I checked, Tajikistan doesn’t have a border with Iran. Think they would make it safeky through Afganistan or Uzbek/Turkmen without getting seized and repurposed by the local authorities?

Numerous trucks are reportedly entering Iran from Tajikistan under the label of “humanitarian aid.” But this raises serious concerns. Islamic Regime has previously established drone production facilities in Tajikistan, this is documented and worth revisiting. Link: mei.edu/publication/ir… Tajikistan could also serve as a transit route, from Russia to Iran. Given the existing alliances of Russia and Islamic Regime. A convoy of trucks labeled as humanitarian aid should not go unquestioned. It needs proper investigation. The risks are too significant to ignore.

Unfortunately threatening escalation after you have already killed Iran’s leadership and made it clear that you want regime change is unlikely to persuade Iran to back off. They believe they have less to lose than their adversaries and they are right

I don’t get it. If Hezbollah had flats in this block (unlikely in central Beirut but not impossible) why did the Israelis give everyone inside an hour to get out — including those they wanted to kill? And if there weren’t any Hezbollah people there, why destroy a building with dozens of civilians in it?
The Associated Press@AP

An Israeli airstrike struck an apartment building in central Beirut, on Wednesday. The Israeli army had warned residents to evacuate about an hour before completely flattening it as day broke.

Magnificent article & investigation by Alan Rusbridger on how the utterly useless Ofcom allowed one of its regulated TV channels, GBNews, to be taken over by a political party.
Peter Oborne@OborneTweets

A massively consequential investigation by Alan Rusbridger into GB News: how "one political party in Britain has effectively ended up with its own television station". Raises deep questions about hi-jacking of British media/political culture: thenewworld.co.uk/alan-rusbridge…

@suzanne_moore Jonathan Freedland has always been a good writer and thinker. I’ve always wondered though why he remains with the Grauniad. When the last good writer leaves a newspaper - what remains?

My comment in this piece " “We can all choose to either de-escalate this anti-Semitism or we can pander to it and I think that if you publish this, you’re choosing to make everyday life even more difficult for Jewish people.” The Guardian edits Gail’s article after anti-Semitism claimsmhttps://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/03/18/guardian-rewrites-gails-article-anti-semitism-claims/

@simonmontefiore @guardian I was a mate and colleague of Gerry Gable - founder of Searchlight Magazine - who so recently left us. I wish he was still here - not least to help educate those on the Left who claim they support ‘hope not hate,’ yet do the exact opposite. May his memory be a blessing.

Even in the most farcical satire, one cant imagine the discussion @guardian editorial meeting that would have come up with this slimy weaselly , dishonest and preposterous non apology. either back your repellent incitement or dont
Nicole Lampert@nicolelampert

As the Guardian marks its own homework, this may be the closest we get to an apology for calling the opening of a bakery - Gail’s - with a tenuous Israel link, ‘an act of heavy-handed high street aggression’.

J’ACCUSE @guardian 🚨‼️ I proudly stood today alongside Jews, our allies and @OurFightUk outside the Guardian offices to protest against the truly irresponsible ‘journalism’ from @jonathanliew who described the presence of Gail’s Bakery in Archway as ‘heavy-handed high street aggression’ simply because it was originally founded by an Israeli Jew and that there is a Palestinian Cafe situated around the corner. We seem to be reaching a point where antisemitism is being completely normalised under the guise of anti-Zionism, even within institutions that are supposed to be trustworthy, the fighters for good and to be held in high esteem.  At a time when antisemitic incidents are rising, hate marches are taking over our cities, Jews are daily faced with violent incidents and are seriously considering having to leave the UK, journalists have a responsibility to write with care, not in ways that risk fuelling hostility or intimidation toward Jewish communities. History shows us where this can lead. The Holocaust did not begin with the murder of six million Jews, it began with rhetoric, blood libel, boycotts and the systematic targeting and exclusion of Jewish businesses and people. Words matter THE GUARDIAN AND JONATHAN LIEW SHOULD DO BETTER. @joshxhowie @kurpapatel @PatrickChristys

Campaign Against Antisemitism
We have joined the protest right now outside The Guardian's offices in London following the newspaper’s recent ludicrous and dreadful column portraying Gail’s as some sort of Jewish supremacist aggressor crushing independent Arab business in Archway. This was just the latest in @guardian’s persistent hostile output that has the effect of encouraging animosity towards Jews. Our polling of the Jewish community shows that, among newspapers, The Guardian scores the worst, with nearly seven in ten – 69% – of British Jews describing its coverage of matters of Jewish interest as unfavourable. Sadly, this newspaper has travelled so far that it may well now regard this as a badge of honour.

Israel’s defence min is claiming that they killed Ali Larijani. He would be a big loss to Iran, was de facto leader since Ayatollah Khamenei’s death. He was also v well known to western diplomats working the nuclear file + someone who would be impt in deciding how this war ends
