Wilyer Abreu being one of the drivers of the Red Sox offense is totally predictable… Connor Wong being the 2nd man up was not quite as predictable.

Brayan Bello yesterday lead the league in Whiffs (19), though only had 2 strikeouts. It’s the 2nd most he’s had in a single game, only behind a 2024 start against the A’s where he had 22 Whiffs, but K’d 11. That’s one of the larger discrepancies I’ve seen between Whiffs and Ks.

Real baseball folks will not overreact to a 5 game sample, but it does not change the fact that this is an extremely uninspiring offense. Even in their Opening Day win, they had 1 run through the first 8 innings.

In Johan Oviedo’s first inning of his Red Sox debut, his velocity is down considerably, most notably his fastball being down nearly 3 mph.

@blamontz I stand corrected. I guess I just have too much respect for Alvarez to try to sneak anything by him really. There’s no hitter in the league that has a more monstrous presence in the box than him. Very surprised to see up-and-in as an actual weak spot. Is that lefty specific?

I wouldn’t recommend throwing 85 up and in to Yordan Alvarez. Doesn’t seem optimal.

The question with Trevor Story hitting 2nd, is will he get enough respect to allow Roman Anthony to get pitches in the zone with first base open, in high-leverage situations? Today, the answer was no. Story’s presence was not enough to earn the opponent to challenge Anthony.

What a difference it’s going to make for this team having 4 guys in the infield that you can feel good about fielding their position. Contreras with another big play.

It’s not been as efficient as a day as you can hope for, but this is really good pitching from Connolly Early through 3 innings.

Going into this at bat Trout was hitless in 15 career at-bats against Javier. The baseball world needs this to be a real Mike Trout renaissance.
