I've been listening to people about Billy Bishop and the message is clear - residents have real concerns about noise and the environment. Doug Ford’s "plan" was slapped together without the community’s input. It's unacceptable and I won't support it. With the consultations wrapping up this week, I want to be direct: any path to modernizing the airport needs to involve its surrounding communities. This Conservative government’s plan is a failure. Shaping the future of Toronto's waterfront must be done collaboratively - but once again, this government just put its own interests first. Ontario deserves better. Let's get to work.

I’ve submitted a motion to committee on protecting public safety at festivals and large community gatherings. Thank you to Councillor Alejandra Bravo for her partnership and Chief of Police, Myron Demkiw for his thoughtful collaboration.

The police are continuing their investigation at the scene. The Salsa on St. Clair festival has been canceled and will not be proceeding today.

I just arrived home from the police command control at St. Clair and Winona. The scene was surreal. A helicopter flying overhead, and dozens of officers shutting down the area. What happened tonight was really painful, terrifying and saddening. My thoughts are with the victims of the shootings this evening. We’re thinking of them and their families. Our police, firefighters and paramedics have my heartfelt gratitude. They were truly remarkable. I’ve heard from parents in the neighbourhood, friends of mine, whose kids were home when they heard that there was a shooting just up the street, and who are understandably scared and upset. I’ve spoken with community leaders who want to find ways to help. I expect there will be lots of questions over the coming days and weeks. Tonight, the police’s priority was to protect the public. They did their job- and they did it well. The next step will be for us to support them as they pursue their investigation so that any further actions are genuinely helpful, and based on the facts. As more information comes in, I’ll provide more updates.
