@Pontifex Sir, the Algerian authorities padlocked churches shut in 2018. They did this from Algiers to Tizi Ouzo forcing Christians underground. They’ve been worshipping at the risk of imprisonment or worse…

Communion between Christians and Muslims takes shape under the mantle of Our Lady of Africa. Here, in #Algeria, the maternal love of Lalla Meryem gathers everyone as children, within our rich diversity, in our shared aspiration for dignity, love, justice, and peace. In a world where division and wars sow pain and death, living in unity and peace is a compelling sign. #ApostolicJourney

Certainly someone in the Vatican is aware that Algerian authorities padlocked churches shut in 2018 forcing Christians underground…

I was in Plateau State a few weeks ago. I visited villages where the Palm Sunday attack took places where 51 were killed. This past Sunday terrorists struck again…28 Christians were killed including a pregnant mother. Pray for the church in Nigeria and for the security forces. #Nigeria

These slogans are being repeated: •جاوید شاه Long live the Shah (a slogan historically associated with Mohammad Reza Pahlavi) •پهلوی برمی‌گرده Pahlavi will return (usually referring to the possible return of Reza Pahlavi or the Pahlavi era) •خامنه‌ای سقط شد Khamenei was aborted (a harsh/insulting slogan directed at Ali Khamenei) •موش علی رفت یا مرد (اشاره به مخفی شدن او در پناهگاه‌ها) “Ali the mouse is gone or dead” (a mocking slogan implying he had been hiding underground).

Got this from an Afghan brother in Canada who @helppersecuted flew out 4 years ago. I will never forget this day… and the days that followed. “On the anniversary of August 15, a day filled with fear and uncertainty for the people of Afghanistan, I want to express my deepest gratitude to HTP and everyone who stood with us during those dark times. Four years ago, with compassion and courage, you helped evacuate hundreds from Afghanistan to safety in different parts of the world, giving them the chance to start a new life. Your actions not only saved lives but also kept hope alive in our hearts. We will never forget your kindness and bravery. May God bless you always.”

Excerpts from a @helppersecuted interview with Druze/Christian young lady whose family was attacked in Swayda… “I was afraid. I immediately ran behind my grandmother. She took the bullets, and I survived. I did not comprehend what was going on. Then I tried to escape. I started crawling to the lower level of the building…. I went back, walking to the second floor with my injured foot, but I fell down as I couldn’t walk any longer, and crawled to the second floor and put myself among the dead women. It seems that I fainted..”

If a Jew converts to Christianity, he may face some rejection from his community at times, but it will never reach the point of being killed. Jews who become Christians—often called Messianic Jews—live with full legal rights protected in Israel. In contrast, in many Muslim-majority countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, if a Muslim converts to Christianity and makes it public, his life is in danger. The government will arrest him, and he will face legal prosecution for converting to Christianity. His wife and children may be taken from him, and his rights will be stripped away. In places like Gaza or the West Bank, if a Muslim converts to Christianity, he will be killed.

Orthodox Christians gather again in St. Elias Orthodox Church in Damascus, Syria chanting Christ is Risen. We are not afraid of your terror. Death holds no power over us for our Lord has conquered it by His own death and resurrection.

The fear, when the Assad regime fell, was that a vacuum would be created. A vacuum that would lead to power struggles between competing Sunni groups such as Al Qaeda & ISIS. Those who suffer the most in MENA power vacuums are Christians. May the Lord bless these believers in Syria & strengthen our HTP team

This morning in Damascus, Syria, a suicide bomber took the lives of 22 Christians, including several children, women, and university students. They died worshipping Christ together in church. Another 63 were wounded. It has been confirmed that the bomber and gunman attackers were of the Islamic State. Our Field Ministers Daniel, Farid, Jala, and Maron shared with us, “This is truly a tragic disaster on all levels. Pray for the healing of the wounded and for the families of the martyrs. May God protect us.” We are currently arranging an emergency podcast with our Field Ministers to learn more about what happened and how we will minister to those affected as our team seeks to provide emergency aid, medical support, and pastoral care. We will share more updates as we have them. Please join us in prayer for: - Complete healing for the 63 wounded - God's comfort for grieving families - Protection for our brothers and sisters in Syria - Strength for our Field Ministers in Syria, and across the Islamic world, who are serving in unimaginable circumstances If you would like to contribute to our team's work in Syria right now, you can do so at htp.org/give. Thank you for anything you can do. We remember what it says in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9: “We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.” Although we grieve the loss of life and persecution, we remember that we are not forsaken. The Lord is with the grieving families, with the wounded, and with our Field Ministers who bravely choose to minister to those in a region where faith in Christ can cost everything.
