I spent the last 15+ years fully immersed in math ed/math ed research. What emerged from that is not necessarily an increased capacity to do math, but rather a belief in my ability to learn. It’s the latter that will continue to serve me in all aspects of my life. #mtbos

I made a Google Form with a polling question. In advance I create the chart for the poll question. Under INSERT in Google Slides I insert a chart from Google Sheets. Students answer the question and it updates my chart in the slides. #GoogleEDU

What is critical with ALL teaching of mathematics is that students are immersed in diverse ways to visualize, represent, and model mathematical ideas. This process must be seasoned with rich discourse where students not only describe what they see but also how they see it.

I really do not recommend replacing all or most teacher explanations with videos. It doesn’t make teaching any less teacher-led… it’s literally the same effect, except videos don’t pause and check for understanding and weave in practice at each step.

@rastokke Education systems in India, China, Japan , Dubai go through math curriculum much faster than we do here in Canada. Many international students in my classes are way ahead of because they move faster through material in elementary school. Naturally they will perform better.
