It is with profound shock and sorrow that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces the passing of our dear colleague Amb. @SantaLaker Kinyera which occurred this morning at Mulago Specialized National referral hospital.
Amb. Kinyera joined the MoFA in 1994 as a career diplomat and rose through the ranks. She has been serving as Uganda's Deputy High Commissioner in Kigali.
Details of funeral arrangements will be shared in due course.
In a productive meeting with @MEMD_Uganda, DAS Troutman congratulated the PermSec on their progress towards first oil, advocated for U.S. private sector involvement and best practices to the oil and critical mineral sectors. As the 🇺🇸 places greater emphasis on commercial diplomacy, we are focused on advancing real deals that mutually benefit both Ugandans and Americans.

This Week in Ugandan Coffee
Day Three
Today our diplomats from @geneva_uganda came to meet us. Ambassador Arthur Kafeero, the Deputy Permanent Representative, led the team. He was accompanied by Dapheen Wabule in charge of economic affairs and Alysha Kiiza. They took our presence seriously enough to turn out in this manner. When Arthur spoke, you could tell he understood the importance of our presence and he acknowledged the support of the @ITCnews in helping us access the world market of coffee. I think public servants who recognize the need to support the business people from their countries create opportunity belong to the saints.
Arthur labored to explain what they do with the constrained Human Resources at the mission. They must attend to the diplomatic work with the international agencies based here to handle various treaties and protocols. These have become even more significant as the international order realigns. Then there is the responsibility to manage relations with the host country. And as part of this create visibility for business interests. Recently they hosted a government team from Uganda on tourism. Now we are also in town. It was our chance to share our thoughts.
One of the benefits of the ITC facilitation under the @UKinUganda’s UKTP support is the concept of container consolidation. This allows Ugandan exporters with modest volumes to spread the freight costs over many exporters. Now that this has been tried and funded by our partners, the Government of Uganda can also contribute by paying for storage anywhere in Europe. This will enable us to bring the coffee to where smaller roasters especially of the high value speciality coffees to get Ugandan coffee. This will translate into higher prices. If this is done on a two year period, it will not be long before we are making money. It is a tested investment that has proved to be worthwhile. We gave that message to Arthur and his team. We hope someone will have the good sense to try this.
One more thing. Two leading exporters out of Uganda are Swiss based companies. Which means that this country is of strategic importance in our coffee sales. We were told that at all coffee expos in Switzerland that our diplomats have attended there is clear interest in Ugandan coffee. Now that we have made contact with our office here, we can expect that they will be connecting us to buyers. That is all we care about. Which is why we are here. We look forward to the opportunity. God help us. And we will do the rest.
Today, the Executive Board held an orientation on the annual update of @UN_Women activities, chaired by Ms. Celia Nabeta of @UgandaUN.

Speaking at the Rhino unveiling ceremony, the @MTWAUganda minister - Hon. Col. (Rtd) Tom R. Butime emphasized that the government's goal is to ensure that conservation of wildlife sustains our national heritage, protect wildlife, and contribute to national development while also creating opportunities that contribute to local livelihoods and national development. So he urged local communities to embrace the development with an open mindset.

X-spaces tonight on the big question; Rhinos are back in the wild at Ajai, what next and how do we turn it in to tourist flow, benifits to the host community and how does it contribute to driving the growth and economy of Westnile
We invite you all to participate. I proposed the X-spaces to be delivered together with the @Uganda_Expozed & @WestnileBirding because we know the Rhino reintroduction though important is only a conservation success. Turning it in to enterprise needs deliberate holistic product development, destination marketing, capacity building and community involvement & linkages.
We need also to quickly orient tour operators and encourage them to add Westnile to their packages and circuits.
Tour operators have several questions which we can’t answer all but we will attempt tonight to set a base for continued learning towards turning Westnile in to a destination.
So the good news is a new tourist product and destination has been added to the Ugandan tourism market. Let’s discuss how it will not be like some of the Ugandan parks that have no trafic because no deliberate strategic actions are in place for back to back integrated, synergistic and holistic action.
Our call is that tourists don’t come for Rhinos alone but to immerse in community, have experiences, shop, engage in adventure and visit cities.
Together we should develop this vision.
Myself, our outfit @arralodges and @Uganda_Expozed would like to mobilize us for this unified action
