WATCH: The Bishop of Masaka diocese Serverus Jjumba has expressed deep concern over the excessive violence being witnessed during political campaigns, noting that such acts were common during former president, the late Idi Amin's era. He emphasized that these actions are wrong and should not be repeated in the present day. He said during the #NewYear2026 Mass celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows, Kitovu that the current leaders must recognise the fact that this is the era of young people. He urged those in power to allow the youth the opportunity to exercise their rights and contribute meaningfully in their own time. He further reminded leaders that their time in office will eventually come to an end and encouraged them to open space for others to take up leadership responsibilities. "You're not the first nor last," he said.
