Supreme Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, urged the government to expedite compensation for downtown Kampala traders who lost merchandise in last year’s floods. He said some of the affected traders had approached him to remind authorities of their plight. He also called on the government to consider vendors in Kampala and other parts of the country who were evicted from the streets, warning that loss of livelihoods could lead to increased crime. #MonitorUpdates 📸: @kakumirizi2002

Hundreds of Muslims throng Madibira Primary School in Busia for prayers to mark Idd ul-Fitr, the festival that signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadhan. This year’s Ramadhan lasted 30 days after the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted on the 29th night, in line with Islamic tradition which requires completing the month when the moon is not visible. Idd ul-Fitr is also marked by the giving of Zakat ul-Fitr, a mandatory charitable contribution that must be paid by every Muslim who has the means. The obligation extends to all members of a household, including children and infants, and is intended to support the less privileged so they can also celebrate the day with dignity and joy. The celebrations in Busia have drawn large crowds, with prayers, community gatherings, and acts of charity defining the day. #MonitorUpdates 📹 Hubaib Bwire
