@JourdenReid @boomshootart Reused assets and yet it's a completely new engine. One where they actually have to remake the old stuff from scratch to put into the new engine

The Halo community scares me, man. I don't even know what's going on but they're rioting over a Fanta skin and armor coatings while we're still chilling with Doomicorn and Mullet Slayer. I'm staying in my Doom corner over here 😬

@HaloNoSprint @realLauraFryer @MinEffortLive Stfu you’ve never read it either! If you did, you’d know the language is intentionally confusing and overly complicated to make you miss the important details. No one should need to pass the bar to understand what they’re signing for before every microtransaction.

Games like Marathon launch and instantly become battlegrounds with rabid defense on one side and grave dancing on the other. Why do so many gamers cheer when big expensive projects fail? What happened to the camaraderie? I break it down in my new video. youtube.com/watch?v=azUJlv…

@HaloNoSprint @realLauraFryer @MinEffortLive Arguing that anyone reads the terms of service is BS, especially when Bungie promised at their E3 demo that Destiny would be a decade long game that never reset the vault or content. You can’t advertise one thing and then TOS the opposite.

@JourdenReid @realLauraFryer @MinEffortLive Taking the content out was detrimental. But no one stole anything. You sign the terms of service befoee playing the game. Next time read it better. By you playing the game, you agreed to it, by you agreeing to it, you agreed to them doing that.

This is a poor excuse for a studio worth billions, especially compared to their competitors who have managed to integrate engine overhauls. They have to hire more contractors? That’s worth it, because it maintains trust in their current player base, while giving an on-ramp for new players. In Warframe, very few players run the original missions. But if you ask them where to start, they all recommend completing the Star Chart in order. How are new players supposed to start Destiny? There’s 0 context to anything, and the missions are designed to allow new players to jump into the end of the story. So Bungie can’t attract new players, they’re stuck milking the original audience. Just because you might be tired of that content doesn’t mean others are. A literal generation of kids have grown up since launch, in addition to the players who dropped off or never tired Destiny. They’ll never get to experience that content.

That’s not a guarantee, live services can absolutely maintain all released content. Warframe is a perfect comparison to Destiny, as it released near D1’s launch. You can still play almost everything from that game, and it helps onboard new players. No Man’s Sky is one of the best live services, despite never charging more than the entrance fee. Even the seasonal content is playable through expedition reruns. Saying that paid content is designed to have an expiration date is gaslighting from bad publishers.

@JourdenReid @realLauraFryer @MinEffortLive A live service game vaulting content to focus resources on content the community is actually playing isn't "stealing". You're buying into a living world that updates and changes. Using loaded language and acting like a victim over nothing is disingenuous af.

This is a very good comparison. Marathons problem has always been its bloated budget. Helldivers didn’t need its insane successful launch to sustain post launch support, but making its budget back so quickly helped. Marathon definitely has not, so it’s a question of how far into the red is Sony willing to go to save Bungie.

for everyone doing “whatabout game XYZ,” here’s an example w Helldivers 2. popular game, $40 price, with very strong retention. they held about 75% for 2 months, then dropped to 10% by June. since then, it fluctuates between 10%-30% with new releases. which, is very successful.

people need to consider, this just shows players are playing a bit less. natural attrition is fine, especially after a month, some games drop to about 15% and is seen as a good thing. the biggest question is how many people show up each season, and how sticky they are.

@Xero_Reality You’re ignoring how everyone loves the free cosmetics you can unlock in H3, Reach, and the MCC additions We got this corpo skin news at the same time we found out 343 is going to ignore feedback about reusing Infinite assets and changing the art style. That context is important

I haven’t played Arc, so I can’t speak to its moment to moment feel. But their player count is also decreasing, so maybe the genre doesn’t have replay value without new content and/or friends. From my experience with Marathon, it just wasn’t exciting. PvP felt good, but that’s about it. No shock value or unique gameplay to grind for, other than Cryo. But that’s way too much grinding for how little fun I was having.

@BoochiDoochi @KaylieRaidz But when it’s a skin so ugly not even modders would make, maybe it’s better to just not bother. Especially when this is the second attempt at redoing Halo CE’s art style, and the first attempt is seen as an abomination.

@KaylieRaidz Having cosmetics in a single player game isnt a bad thing, these are basically just texture swaps that took maybe a day at most maybe even like 15 hours, this is a non issue in my eyes

So you're adding cosmetics to a FIRST PERSON game most people play SINGLEPLAYER Meaning the only way to even SEE the Cosmetic is to Drive a Vehicle or Kill Yourself. Good Job 343

@KaylieRaidz > You see, we have to reboot the whole Halo franchise so it can have artistic consistency! Bungie changing forerunner structures between CE and 2 was too much. > Preorder now for your corpo branded Spartan Armor! And don’t forget to buy a Double Whopper for the Burger King Skin!

@tanomuzeA After Assassin’s Creed 2, I had been begging Ubisoft to make a Japanese game. I was disappointed after waiting 16 years only to receive such mockery. It’s ok though. Ghosts of Tsushima and Sekiro satiated my hunger.

I don’t think the fans are acknowledging how much downtime there is in each match. Just because it’s hardcore doesn’t mean there’s constant action. A lot of time is spent walking, looting, and managing inventory. At best, it only has tension if you value the gear you carry, which is less likely early on. Otherwise it’s boring with a few moments of excitement. That’s not bad enough to make them say “it sucks,” but dull enough to say “I guess I had fun,” and not log in again.

Ignore this if you are just gonna reply dead game lol But I am curious to discuss with people why yall think Marathon is still losing players. I truly believe it was going to stablize. Is it too hardcore or are players just bored of the gameplay loop? If you have fallen off Marathon I want to hear from you!
