Coming off the success of our previous issue, we are pleased to announce the callout for contributions towards the third issue of our journal, which invites critical engagements over the question of Somali nationalism, examining ideas of power, belonging, and political community.

The second entry in our blog section seeks to (re)address the understanding of Somali women via the/her built environment. Nasra Aden provides a strong critique of white feminist discourse on women’s liberation in the Global South, through the practice of building Somali habitats

The Somalis are renowned for their ancient oral poetry tradition, but the examples in “Somali Poetry: An Introduction” (1964) strike the modern reader as lacking in depth. “The best dance is the dance of the Eastern clans / The best people are ourselves.”



Gobanimo is pleased to release the digital edition of its second issue, 'Power, Politics, Belonging'. We believe that part of dispelling reductive narratives surrounding Somali affairs involves decentralising access to critical knowledge production, and increasing accessibility
