For any funders out there interested in new ways to complement existing local journalism support ecosystem: Help build a pipeline for national journalists to go local. You’ll never make up for the pay cut, esp at scale, but could help play matchmaker between nat’l reporters and local outlets (screening both for good fit), fund moving costs/sign on bonus, help find housing/schools etc. in new community, and provide ongoing coaching, networking and career development. Now’s a perfect time for something like this with NYC and DC media contracting and laid off folks unsure if they can stay in the industry at all. I know lots of talented journos who be consider making a move like this now that never would have before.
