Answered this ad; got the job; started on November 29, 1993. Thirty years later, I'm still at @nymag, after five editors-in-chief, five offices, and uncountable hours of the night work that was, indeed, required. They misspelled "grammar."

@conz Definitely go to Argentina if you can’t get a closer appointment. Better to be assured it’s benign ASAP than to find out too late it wasn’t. I’m not a fan of being alarmist, but have also had loved ones (that are all fine now!) have to endure too much.

@conz Considering I had to pull my kid out of her Cinderella dance recital after she saw the Disney movie, I do not recommend. The Disney villains really do a number. Then again she loves The Nightmare Before Christmas, so what do I know?

Shoutout to NYU Langone who somehow have neither of my daughter's parents listed as her proxy, even though she's been there multiple times. Just a 4-year-old's medical record floating in outer space with no one able to access it. Healthcare!

Update to the Ben saga. There’s a little boy that drowned in the river across the street from our house a year or two before we moved here. Just found out his name was Ben. Not the most uncommon name, but still…

Today I have been informed that my kid’s imaginary brother, Ben, landed in the hospital because he ate a nut and got “sick.” She’s having a full conversation with him right now. 👀

My only child has been walking around talking about her imaginary brother, Ben. “Ben helped me make this tent.” “Ben and I are going to school.” “Ben is standing right over there.” Getting a little creepy over here.

Unfortunately I’ve been laid off from G/O Media today (on my day off of all days)! It’s been a pleasure working with the amazing folks at Onion Inc. and GMG, they make working at a hard and unrewarding place worth it! That being said, I’m looking for video editing, shooting,

8:40am, still recovering from a massive respiratory disease, and almost lost a lung in the car during last-day-of-school drop off. It's not worth going outside today, folks!

@nuriapuntonet @S_Evangelina Cité des sciences et de l'industrie, for sure! It was my daughter's favorite spot. She loved the Pompidou and the playgrounds in the Marais as well. And she's still VERY proud of herself for climbing the Arc de Triomphe "all by myself."

@S_Evangelina We were in the Pompidou at one point and my 3-year-old wanted a snack. Obvs you can't eat near the art. A security guard took her by the hand, kicked a bunch of adults out of a nearby seating area so she could have a nice view while she ate, and then gave her extra snacks.

@S_Evangelina Wait until you see how they treat you AFTER you have the kid. The French are obsessed with small children. Spent two weeks in Paris in March (after going multiple times alone over the years) and was like OMG is my daughter a celebrity? Just giving her free stuff at every turn.

@FredaMoon One of my favorite LA 36 Hours was the one from 2015 that went micro and focused on Koreatown. It was honestly the perfect 36 Hours in LA and actually made me like the city for the first time ever. nytimes.com/2015/02/15/tra…

I've put a lot (too much) thought into what makes the 36 Hours format work so well. People love it. And love to hate it. We love to armchair travel for a dizzying weekend. And we relish dissecting the terrible choices made about our own cities when NYT comes to town. Delicious.

Sure, but who wants to read about the (unknowable) time lost to LA traffic? The best 36 Hours are a thrilling onslaught of the things that make a place itself. A pick-and-choose grab bag of temptation. An argument for staying longer than a weekend. A choose your own adventure.
Doree Shafrir@doree

Per the NYT you can land at LAX on a Friday at 3pm, get your rental car, get In-N-Out, drive to Venice Beach, rent a bike, do a 14 mile RT bike ride, and go for a swim in the ocean, all in TWO HOURS???? Just renting a car at LAX can take two hours

@EsmeMazzeo I have dyscalculia, which might be what you're looking for? It often comes with an increased talent for verbal skills/languages. People with dyscalculia often end up in writing-centric fields.

🚨 Does anyone else with CP have spacial issues/issues with maps and, difficulty with math? And sometimes get overwhelmed by graphs or busy screens? Someone once told me this has a name, I'm no longer in touch with them to ask....I always struggle to describe this. #Disability

Just had to pull my daughter from her ballet recital because they’re doing Cinderella and there’s nothing about any version of the show/movie/story that doesn’t terrify her. The more I think about it, I’m pretty sure she’s right!

“Is it allergies or am I sick?” If you’re wondering and can, maybe get it checked out. Found out that my “allergies” the last few weeks were allergies + a bacterial infection that was steadily getting worse until I was barely breathing. Glad we got that sorted!
