Yesterday I defended my PhD. We had a great time. Mixed feelings[relief and excitement] I can now say I am Phinished. Thanks to my PI @McGrierGroup for all the support. Next is Dow in Collegeville PA.

some of my fav advice for grad students: remember you are there to learn Not to impress, prove, or compete focusing on learning, rather than performance, as the main goal can help reduce stress, anxiety, & fear (e.g. about “looking dumb” asking needed question)

I’m definitely developing my “have fun anyways” skills. The older you get, fun has to be a decision. Something will always go wrong, surprise expenses pop up, people’s mood around you will be horrible, you get tired, there will always be an inconvenience, but… HAVE FUN ANYWAYS.

PSA: your DEI priorities should ALWAYS focus on making a space more inclusive and equitable, BEFORE focusing on recruiting underrepresented people to up your statistics. A reminder I didn’t think we’d need in 2022 yet here we are

BREAKING NEWS: The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2022 #NobelPrize in Chemistry to Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless “for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry.”
