Spain's LaLiga has blocked access to freedom.gov, an official U.S. government website, in the country. This block occurred amid LaLiga's ongoing anti-piracy efforts. A court ruling authorized LaLiga to require Spanish ISPs to block IP addresses linked to suspected illegal football streams. More recent court decisions have extended similar obligations to VPN providers such as ProtonVPN and NordVPN, classifying them as intermediaries required to restrict access to identified piracy-related IPs. Proton VPN's general manager, David Peterson, publicly noted the incident, pointing out that freedom.gov was being treated as if it hosted unauthorized LaLiga broadcasts.
