Successfully defended my dissertation on Friday surrounded by friends, family, and scholars I admire! It has been an adventure, but this is just the first step in a much longer journey. Very excited to share what's next for aesthetic #literacies soon! 👀

"By defining reading as mastery of arbitrary skill sequences, pupils who read widely and with good comprehension may be undervalued, while pupils who perform well on isolated skill tests but who can't or don't care to read are lulled into complacency." -the late Ken Goodman

📊Research has found that classrooms differ a great deal in quality of discussions--and those differences impact comprehension development. Please see below for examples of differences. For a self-assessment and guide to quality talk about text, see amazon.com/Quality-Talk-A…

@mrbgilson I think we each have our own stories to tell and if we, the educators, don’t tell them, then self-proclaimed experts do. I’m a huge advocate of educators sharing with educators (through pd, writing, etc).

One thing that often gets in my way regarding possible writing a resource book or starting some kind of Pd service is that there are really so few unique ideas now. I feel uncomfortable with the idea of “hey this is an idea from… but here is my tweak that made it successful”
