MCKINNEY - On Monday, April 6, 2026, the Collin County Commissioners Court voted to approve the sale of the Collin County Adventure Camp to the Circle Ten Council of Scouting America. After extensive discussion, the court approved the sale in a 3-2 vote. Although two other bids - submitted by Huffines Enterprise Land Holdings Development (Huffines) and Horizon Capital Partners LLC - offered higher purchase prices, they did not include plans to preserve the camp's original purpose as an outdoor youth facility. During the discussion, Commissioners Cheryl Williams and Duncan Webb expressed their preferences to sell the property to Huffines for the highest offer of $28.15 million, but Judge Chris Hill and Commissioners Darrell Hale and Susan Fletcher voted in favor of the Circle Ten Council offer to prioritize preserving the original intent and mission of the camp. In 2001, Collin County voters approved $26 million in bonds to fund the development of the Collin County Adventure Camp, and the camp officially opened in 2006. For nearly two decades, it has provided a dedicated space for youth programs, outdoor education, and community activities; serving local schools, scout groups, and other organizations. The offer of $26 million matches the amount originally approved by the voters of Collin County to establish the adventure camp. "This decision reflects our commitment to honoring the community’s original vision, ensuring the camp remains a place where the youth of Collin County can learn, grow, and connect with nature," said Collin County Judge Chris Hill. Under Scouting America ownership, the camp will continue to operate as an active outdoor adventure and educational environment, supporting programs in camping, STEM, and leadership development. While the site's new focus will be scouting activities, the camp will remain accessible for broader community use, continuing to serve the schools, families, and local organizations of Collin County.
