@TheWinterRoad @PolitlcsUK @thetimes Were you absent when your country needed people to come and fill the 40k vacancies? What happened to your legs and hands? What were those people promised as part of their incentive for coming?

🚨 NEW: Shabana Mahmood is considering relaxing her immigration reforms so the 10-year wait for indefinite stay does not apply to "Boriswave" migrants They may instead just face longer waits for benefits to ease pressure on Andy Burnham from Labour MPs [@thetimes]

I just spoke with the CEO of the East of England Ambulance Service Trust following yesterday's train crash. I expressed my gratitude to the air ambulance crews, the emergency services who responded under extremely difficult circumstances, as well as the NHS staff taking care of the injured. My thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating incident.

We would ask people to avoid spreading rumours and misinformation in relation to an incident involving a delivery driver and a large group of youths in Bootle yesterday evening, Friday 19 June. At around 6.50pm an independent witness reported that a delivery driver was riding his bike towards the alleyway off Edward Jenner Avenue when the group of 20 youths stopped him and grabbed onto his bike. The driver tried to get away from the group and the youths then started throwing punches towards him to which the delivery driver defended himself while also attempting to get away from the youths. Officers arrived at the scene and witnessed the youths acting aggressively and shouting at the driver, while attempting to confront him. Enquiries have been conducted and an independent third party who witnessed the incident has confirmed that the youths were assaulting the delivery driver, and he had acted in self-defence to protect himself. Detective Superintendent Louise Birchall said: “We have carried out extensive enquiries to understand the circumstances of what happened and can confirm from an independent witness that the delivery driver was defending himself after being confronted by 20 youths. “We are satisfied that he had acted in self-defence. “We are aware that social media posts are circulating online and would urge people not to share rumours or misinformation which creates a false narrative of what actually took place.”

@Tomi_Tomero You think so limited. Has anyone packed the waste that has been gathered and piled up on many corners and public spots of Lagos? What happens to the massive ones on Saturdays? The solution is not that!

@alabiopeyemiola I think you are too poor to understand his point and I don't mean money wise. 1. Do you understand the economic implication? 2. Do you understand how this is govt avoiding their own part? 3. Do you understand how this is very retrogressive?

Calling two hours of environmental sanitation “shutting down a city of 20 million people” is a stretch and AJASA We’re talking about 2 hours out of over 700 hours in a month. That’s less than 0.3% of the time. And not even during peak productivity hours, but early morning (6:30–8:30am), when most Lagosians are just starting their day. You don’t fix a system by ignoring simple, collective actions. And opposition shouldn’t mean dismissing everything outright. Two hours of shared responsibility is not “parochial.” It’s practical.
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour@GRVlagos

Shutting down a city of 20 million people to clean their immediate environment is parochial and lacks imagination. For emphasis: the issue is not so much about cleaning your environment (which is great) but the logistics of waste management - starting from the collection, to disposal and recycling. Anything short of rethinking this system is cosmetic and unimaginative.

@olateeman It’s not that we can’t build it. It’s just that we must try to build the most complex thing before fixing the basics of power, systems, and accountability. Even if you give Nigeria £100 million today which is only for one kilometre of underground, it won’t solve the real problem.

London underground rail system will never cease to be amazing to me. To think that they had this planned out years ago. There is no way my home country can ever get this kind of infrastructure done. Where do we even start from?
