Content note: child loss, grief, undiagnosed Type 1 diabetes
On Wednesday, October 1st, @triggersbroom17 joins me to share about his daughter, Lyla, who was lost this spring to undiagnosed type 1 diabetes. The conversation is raw, honest, and heartbreaking.
If you’re not in a place to hear about the loss of a child, please skip episode 1641 or save it for later. If you do listen, I think you’ll meet a dad doing everything he can to make sure this doesn’t happen to another family.
We also talk about the signs of Type 1 you can miss in little kids—the “4 Ts”: Toilet, Thirst, Tired, Thinner. Share those with someone who needs them.
📷 UK listeners: John is asking the government to fund routine T1D testing for infants/children. If you’re a UK citizen, consider signing his petition.

📷 1,500 Episodes.
I just posted the 1,500th episode of the Juicebox Podcast — and while I don’t generally spend a lot of time celebrating stuff like this, today I’m making an exception.
There aren’t a lot of podcasts that reach this level. In fact:
·Nearly half of all podcasts never make it past episode 3
·Over 75% stop before episode 7
·About 90% disappear before episode 20
·And only 15% of all podcasts are still active today
Of those that remain?
Most are barely heard, rarely rated, or long forgotten.
That’s what makes this moment hit a little different.
It’s not about the number — it’s about you being here. Listening. Sharing. Growing. Some of you from the very beginning.
I’m feeling incredibly proud — and honestly, overwhelmed with gratitude for all of you. So if you’ve ever listened, messaged, rated the show, told a friend, or found comfort in the episodes… thank you.
It might sound trite to say, but the truth is, what those other podcasts didn’t have — and what we do — is support from exceptional listeners.
I hope everyone can join me in celebrating the stories told, lessons learned, and of course the next 1,500 episodes.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share an update on Vertex’s research that many of us were following with hope. Vertex recently announced they are stopping the development of VX-264, an experimental cell therapy designed to help people with type 1 diabetes. In a Phase 1/2 trial with 17 patients, VX-264—which used donor stem cells packaged in a protective implantable device to boost insulin production without needing long-term immune suppression—was found to be safe but didn’t show the expected increase in C-peptide levels (a key marker for insulin production). In simple terms, while the treatment didn’t cause harm, it wasn’t effective enough to offer the benefits we hoped for.

📷 Juicebox Podcast: A Life Coach Experiment 📷
What if your social media algorithm knew something about you before you did?
In episode 1412, I sit down with a longtime listener who reached out for support—someone who found my podcast through her child’s type 1 diabetes but now needs help with something far different. After decades in a psychologically abusive relationship, she’s ready to break free but faces challenges many wouldn't see from the outside.
This isn’t about diabetes. This is about control, gaslighting, illness, and the realization that what’s happening behind closed doors is not okay.
This conversation is raw, real, and might resonate with you more than you expect.
