Even if a letting agent is involved, the law is crystal clear. Under the Housing Act 2004, the legal duty sits with the landlord. I welcome Leeds City Council's decision to expand their selective landlord licencing policy to include the Armley area. While many private landlords operate in the right way, we know that lots of private tenants in Armley face problems with poorly maintained housing. (1/3)

This is utterly DAMNING. Rachel Reeves posted this only ten days ago. "The scheme means private landlords will be *required by law* to obtain a licence" She now can't use the excuse she made a 'mistake'. She broke the law. She really does have to go.
