@kuina_ch Single elimination is not an ideal system. @DOTA2 runs a Upper-bracket, Lower-bracket model for The International! Which works pretty well!!

Self-hosting looks like a nerd hobby from the outside. Then one day you realize it is really about control. Your files. Your automations. Your backups. Your media. Your tools. Your little corner of the internet that does not depend on yet another subscription deciding to change the rules. The setup pain is real. So is the freedom

A strong Reddit pain signal: ADHD users keep describing “out of sight, out of mind” problems. Not just tasks. - Clothes they forget they own. - Friends they forget to text - Maintenance they ignore until something breaks. This is not a todo app problem. It is a resurfacing problem.

The biggest trap in “is there an app for…” research: Sometimes the correct answer is not an app. Example: someone wanted a baby shower book tracker to avoid duplicates. A new app would add friction. The better product is probably a no-login shared link.

Building TuneShift: a Chrome extension for real-time YouTube pitch shifting and playback speed control, built for musicians and practice sessions. github.com/JuliousFrost/t… > I’d use the Deepseek credits to plug it into my hermes agent and document the setup, either as a clean guide or a cursed bug report.

One app idea I found today: Field workers want to create invoices by voice while standing on-site. Not “AI invoice generator.” Not “accounting software.” Just: Speak job details → get invoice → send to client. Boring idea. Real pain. Better than 90% of “AI SaaS” ideas.

I searched Reddit for people asking “is there an app for…” and the pattern is obvious: Most requests are bad startup ideas. But a few are useful because they include: - clear pain - current workaround - existing tools that failed - a specific user group The idea is not the asset. The pain pattern is.
