🦐 A newly identified species of shrimp has been named in honour of the people of Glasgow - Tealliocaris weegie. New research published in an RSE journal by researchers @NtlMuseumsScot and @hunterian has forever identified it as a Glaswegian crustacean. rse.org.uk/?p=46718

@incisorial @palaeokatie @hunterian There are quite a variety of sharks from Bearsden with a variety of different 'brush' types or lack thereof (Falcatus, Orestiacanthus, Denae, Akmonistion, Helodus, Deltoptichius, iniopterygians, and Tristychius - as well as this big skull with no brush/teeth on top of the head)

Happy #FossilFriday, here’s another belter from the awesome @hunterian collections! This is the skull of stethacanthus, a shark-like chondrichthyan that once inhabited the tropical brackish water lagoons of Bearsden around 330 million years ago! LOOK AT THOSE TEETH 😍🖤

@palaeokatie @incisorial @hunterian I'm not sure this shark has a brush complex at all. There are no teeth on the top of the head as Akmonistion does, do at least a different animal.

A pleasure to introduce Fossil Grove to the @NewPhyt editorial meeting at the weekend! Thanks @JurassicClark1 for showing us the collections @hunterian, and a huge thanks to @agalmatolite #FossilGroveTrust for giving a great history of the site

Great to see the Fossil Grove in Glasgow when I attended the New Phytologist Editorial meeting. These are the remains of trees which thrived about 330 million years ago. Thanks to @Sandy_Heth for the introductory talk. Wonderful visit, highly recommended.

Today is a good day to - start a new job! It’s my first day at Oxford University Museum of Natural History, @morethanadodo, as Collections Manager (Earth Collections), specialising in vertebrate palaeontology… And WHAT vertebrate palaeontology they (we!) have!!! 🤤❤️
