Perspective is everything.
In 2014 I was an uncommitted senior with minimal D1 interest. Dave Nakama (head coach at San Jose State at the time) came out to watch me play. I went 0-fer and played a sloppy 3B. My worst game of the season, and I knew that any opportunity at SJSU was gone.
Coach Naks called me after that game and told me he would be back out to see me again. It's baseball, "it happens", he said.
3 months later I accepted a scholarship offer from Coach Nakama to go play for my hometown team.
Fast forward to 2017 - I was getting some draft buzz after coming off of 3 strong starts including Opening Day at UCLA in front of a crowd loaded with MLB scouts - they came for the guy I was starting against - Griffin Canning of the @Angels.
3 weeks later I started on the road against New Mexico and gave up 10 earned runs on 14 hits through 4 innings. My ERA quadrupled in an hour.
A NorCal MLB scout called me that night and said, "It happens. On to the next one". He didn't have to do that.
4 months later I was drafted by the Cleveland Indians thanks to legendary scout Don Lyle.
Perspective is everything.
Coaches & scouts are looking for guys that can perform... no doubt. But more than that, they are looking for competitors who can separate from failure, reset, and continue to be difference makers.
You are going to get your ass beat at some point in baseball, and in life. The way you handle the adversity is more significant than the ass beating itself.

Vince Lombardi said, "Confidence is contagious. So is lack of confidence."
Mark Twain said, "Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear."
Confidence comes from inside you.
Confidence is not about being perfect or never failing.
It is about having the courage to try, to learn, and to grow from every experience.
Confidence is the feeling that you are capable.
✅It comes from your preparation.
✅It comes from your thoughts.
✅It comes from your self-talk.
✅It comes from doing tough things.
Your confidence grows as you accomplish goals, push through obstacles, and prepare yourself for what is ahead.
4 Habits That are Killing your Confidence:
1. Failure to Start - This is the state when you constantly doubt yourself. You know what needs to be done, but don't do it. Examples include rumination, overthinking, and procrastination. This habit paralyzes you, fuels self-doubt, kills confidence, and leads to self-criticism.
2. Failure to Commit - This is when you don't stick with your commitments. Examples include failing to finish what you start, getting bored, or not going anywhere. This habit leads you to doubt yourself if you did the right thing. It ultimately leads to hesitation.
3. Failure to Enjoy the Journey - This is destination obsession. It's when you always put pressure on yourself and tell yourself that you should be "doing more". Examples include comparing yourself with others or thinking there is always more to be done. This habit exhausts you and burns you out.
4. Failure to be Yourself - This habit involves constantly conforming to others' expectations or trying to be someone you're not. Examples include wearing a mask to hide your true feelings or denying your own values and beliefs. This habit not only erodes your self-confidence but also leaves you feeling disconnected from your true identity.
