you're villifying the wrong people and arguing by false equivalence, simon. people still trust science, they just do not trust "science imposed upon them by experts at the point of a gun." no one is saying "airplanes don't fly" or "computers don't compute." they are saying "you lied about climate change, epidemiology, trade offs with products like roundup, GRAS designations, nutrition, race, gender, and 500 other topics>' and many of these criticisms have validity. and in response, the experts blame the questioner and demand deference. and those who refuse to engage on facts rarely have the facts on their side. trust was lost because "the experts" proved not only untrustworthy, but outright dictatorial. they faked evidence and data, made up wild pseudoscientific theories, and vilified sound science, and pushed utter fakery in its place. they censored opposition and claimed "the science was settled" to prevent investigation into their frauds. and they forced the whole world at the expense of lives and trillions of dollars of lost welfare to play along. it was high handed, dishonest, tyranny. have you stopped to consider that they earned this loss of faith? because they did. MIT wrote a literal article about "anti mask twitter" which it vilified by claiming “most fundamentally, the groups we studied believe that science is a process, not an institution.” as though it proved we had somehow turned our backs on science. but we did not. science is and must be a process. it is never an institution. that's dogma, not the methods of bacon. we did not stop trusting science, the experts stopped performing it and were dancing around in the flensed skinsuit of scientific method that they had stripped from the bones that made it valid: dispute, dissent, replication, validation - open and honest discourse. if you want to win back trust, you need to restore open debate and engagement, share methods, means, and data. wailing about "they won't trust us!" and blaming the folks who called out the deviation from sound science is just another arrogant presumption for institutions to dictate doctrine. you want to respect for sceince? start respecting to process of science again.

The collapse of trust in science is going to go down in history as one of the most sad, bizarre, and destructive social contagions of modern times. We fed billions, cured diseases and powered nations - yet people ran toward conspiracies instead.

This is must-see copypasta of a FB post from @MamaMysteryPod who is not active on Twitter but I am open mouthed & sweating & 👀😳😭 💔 🔗 facebook.com/share/p/182Wnn… “This is one of the most disturbing stories I have covered in a long time, and I cannot stop thinking about these three little kids. It started on March 8th, 2026, with a woman walking her dog in the Hickory Hill neighborhood of southeast Memphis, Tennessee. She spotted what appeared to be a human skull near a wooded area in the 3400 block of Ridge Meadow Parkway and called it in. Officers responded and confirmed it: a human skull, sitting at the edge of the woods. The next day, March 9th, officers returned and continued searching. On March 10th, investigators and medical examiners conducted a thorough canvass of the area, and a cadaver dog alerted them to a nearby drainage pipe. On March 16th, the drainage system was inspected using a camera to examine the interior of the pipes. Then on April 1st, investigators located what appeared to be a second human skull inside the drainage system. On April 2nd, after another canvass of the surrounding area, they recovered 14 additional bones consistent with human remains. Two skulls. Fourteen bones. All belonging to children. On April 22nd, Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis held a press conference and confirmed what investigators had been piecing together for weeks. The West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center analyzed the remains and determined they belonged to three separate children, all believed to have been between 3 and 7 years old. Based on the condition of the bones, the remains are believed to have been at the site for a few years. About 170 personnel from local, state, and federal agencies, including the FBI and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, conducted a grid search along a portion of Ridge Meadow Parkway on April 22nd in an effort to locate additional evidence. There are no names. No cause of death. No suspects. And no matches to any missing children reports in the Memphis area. Chief Davis said police conducted a full review of all recent missing persons reports and found nothing matching the profile of the remains. “We know that this individual was not, or these individuals were not, persons that were reported out of our area,” she said. That detail is one of the most haunting parts of this entire story. These three children, between 3 and 7 years old, have been lying in a drainage pipe and a wooded area in Memphis for what may be years, and nobody reported them missing. Not in Memphis. Not in surrounding areas. Amber alerts were checked. Police reports were checked. Nothing. Then on April 28th, Chief Davis addressed the city council and made a statement that changes everything. She said she believes adults were involved in the deaths of these children. That is the first time investigators have publicly indicated this was not an accident. Someone put these children there. “Any time we find an individual who is deceased in our community, that belongs to somebody, it’s always a somber moment,” Davis said. “It’s even more somber when it is our children, young people that belong to somebody, that belonged to some community.” “Somebody knows where these children have come from. Someone knows of missing children that we have discovered in this area,” she said. The cause of death has not been determined. The identities of the three children are still unknown. The investigation is active and ongoing, with the FBI, TBI, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and Memphis Police Department all working the case. If you have any information, please contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH or the Memphis Police Department Homicide Bureau at 901-636-3300. These babies deserve to be identified. They deserve justice. 💙”

Hantaviruses: Virology and Clinical Presentation Virology Hantaviruses are enveloped, single-stranded, negative-sense RNA viruses belonging to the family Hantaviridae (order Bunyavirales). Their genome is segmented into three parts (S, M, and L) encoding the nucleocapsid protein, two glycoproteins (Gn and Gc), and an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, respectively. Unlike most other bunyaviruses, hantaviruses are not arthropod-borne; instead, each viral species is associated with a specific rodent (or occasionally shrew or bat) reservoir host, in which infection is persistent and asymptomatic. Humans are accidental hosts, typically infected through inhalation of aerosolized excreta (urine, feces, saliva) from infected rodents. Person-to-person transmission is rare, with the notable exception of Andes virus in South America. Clinical Presentation Hantavirus infections in humans cause two main clinical syndromes, divided roughly along Old World/New World lines. Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) is caused predominantly by Old World hantaviruses such as Hantaan, Seoul, Puumala, and Dobrava viruses. After an incubation period of roughly 1–4 weeks, illness classically progresses through five phases: febrile, hypotensive, oliguric, diuretic, and convalescent. Symptoms include fever, headache, back and abdominal pain, conjunctival injection, petechiae, and acute kidney injury, sometimes with hemorrhagic manifestations. Severity varies widely, with Hantaan and Dobrava causing more severe disease (case fatality up to 5–15%) and Puumala causing a milder form known as nephropathia epidemica. Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome (HCPS) is caused by New World hantaviruses, most notably Sin Nombre virus in North America and Andes virus in South America. After a 1–5 week incubation, patients experience a nonspecific prodrome of fever, myalgias, and gastrointestinal symptoms lasting several days, followed by abrupt onset of cough, dyspnea, and rapidly progressive noncardiogenic pulmonary edema due to capillary leak. Cardiogenic shock often follows in severe cases. Case fatality is high, around 35–40%, and treatment is largely supportive, with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) used in severe cases. Laboratory clues common to both syndromes include thrombocytopenia, leukocytosis with a left shift, elevated hematocrit (from hemoconcentration), and the presence of immunoblasts on peripheral smear. Diagnosis is confirmed by serology (IgM/IgG) or RT-PCR. No specific antiviral therapy is approved, though ribavirin has shown some benefit in HFRS if given early.
