On January 31, 2024, Davelle Heath Jr. was wrongly convicted of attempted murder. Davelle maintains his innocence. The incident, which took place in Youngstown, Ohio on March 21, 2022, pertains to a woman who accused Davelle of shooting her. In spite of her claim, Davelle has four solid alibis. He spent the entire evening with his family at Westside Bowling until 9:30 pm, then returned to his family’s home for the night. All four individuals testified to his whereabouts. There was no physical evidence presented during the trial, such as a gun, bullet casings, fingerprints, witnesses, or DNA, to support the accuser’s claim. Detectives admitted to not having any physical evidence; nor did the detectives did not look for any other suspects. Despite many discrepancies and the absence of concrete evidence, Davelle Heath Jr. has been denied bond and is currently awaiting sentencing in Mahoning County Jail. Those who know Davelle Heath Jr. know him as a loving friend, LGBTQ+ Advocate, inspiring, free-spirited, a safe space, and more. Davelle Heath Jr. is a proud graduate of the University of Louisville, Morehouse College, and a PhD Student at Lancaster University with no criminal record. Davelle deserves justice. And so, my final gift is to ease the transition to a world without my physical presence. I call less, reveal less, and don’t allow myself to be seen—gradually diminishing my existence. Forever wondering: will my mustard seed of hope grow or remain dormant?

So I begin to think, because I cannot feel; I am indifferent to life. I understand that sometimes we express ourselves most eloquently by saying nothing, allowing our presence—unexplained and unembellished—to speak for itself.

Journal entry : Day XX in captivity: Man continues to live because he is a living creature, not because reason convinces him of the certainty or probability of future satisfactions or achievements. He is socially wired, driven by activities that propel him forward.

I know that life waits for no one, but I can’t help feeling that many people no longer have the emotional currency for me. So, I yield to emotions, actions, and outcomes that I resent. My presence is a constant reminder of something ugly that people would rather avoid.

Yet people feel the least present when they don’t feel seen, and I am not seen. I retreat and find solace in the detachment of my thoughts, seeking comfort while maintaining a controlled paranoia because of my environment. The last thing I ever wanted was to be an inconvenience.
