The Government have responded to our petition 😢😡 This response was given on 5 September 2023 We currently have no plans to introduce new legal requirements in relation to seized dogs. All kennels that operate as a commercial business must be licensed and meet set health and welfare standards. In accordance with Section 9 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, all police forces have a duty to ensure the welfare of animals under their control, including the welfare of seized dogs. When a dog is seized, under Section 3 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 a police force becomes temporarily responsible for the dog and any decision-making relating to its health and welfare whilst the police force remains responsible for the dog. Individual police forces have their own policies in relation to the management of seized dogs, including scenarios where it is best practice to notify owners about the health and/or welfare status of their dog eg. if a dog becomes seriously unwell or where euthanasia is being considered/ was required on welfare grounds. Depending on the circumstances, it may be necessary for the police force to authorise freezing or cremating the body of a dog soon after euthanasia for biosecurity reasons eg. if the owner cannot be contacted within a reasonable time frame. The National Police Chiefs’ Council dangerous dogs working group encourages all forces to keep their policies for the management of seized dogs up to date and to reflect best practice. All kennels that operate as a commercial business must be licensed under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 (“the 2018 Regulations”). Licensees must meet and maintain strict minimum welfare standards which are enforced by local authorities who have powers to issue, refuse or revoke licences. There is also an interim exemption scheme allowing suspected prohibited dogs to remain with their owners in advance of a court hearing if the police determine that the dog is not likely to pose a threat to public safety in the meantime. The Dangerous Dogs Exemption Schemes (England and Wales) Order 2015 sets out that the relevant Chief Officer of Police must satisfied about the dog’s temperament, and suitability of its owner, for it to be placed on the interim exemption scheme. As part of this, the relevant Chief Officer of Police must also be satisfied that a seized suspected prohibited dog has been neutered, microchipped and has a third-party liability policy in place before it can be released back to the owner whilst the Court case is waiting to be heard. Defra officials are working with the police to assess current take up of the scheme and explore any barriers that may act as a deterrent to take up. Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs

32 years ago today the Dangerous Dogs Act (1991) was brought into force on 12th August. Since then many innocent dogs have lost their lives because of how they look and not because they have done anything wrong. Many other breeds of dogs who have been involved in minor incidents have also lost their lives due to a lack of knowledge, understanding or simply owners not being told their rights. Dogs held in police approved kennels awaiting court dates or decisions have died whilst in the care of those who are supposed to be caring and looking after them. Families are not always notified for weeks. Tyson was a Pitbull type, due to a disastrous attempt and lack of training in equipment issued whilst seizing him, He was SET ON Fire on by the police. Esco, Lucy, Desel and Reefaa all died whilst being held in police approved kennels. Nia and Thor were put to sleep when a relative looking after them signed a disclaimer and they're real owner was never contacted or their appeals to withdraw that disclaimer got answered. There will be more we don't know about and more this happens too unless we take a stand. Part of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 is Breed Specific Legislation which is to restrict the ownership of certain types of dogs deemed to be dangerous to people. UK legislation bases the decision on whether a dog is illegal on looks and measurements – a dog’s breed, a dog’s parents’ breeds, DNA testing and behaviour don’t come into it. Classing a dog as illegal based on looks alone means that half of the puppies in a litter of crossbreeds could be illegal types, when the other half of the litter would not be. The term pit bull is often used loosely to describe dogs with similar physical characteristics, and the morphological (physical) variation amongst "bully breed" dogs makes it difficult for anyone, even experts, to visually identify them as distinct from "non-pit bulls". While mixed breed dogs are often labeled as "pit bulls" if they have certain physical characteristics such as a square shaped head or bulky body type, visual identification of mixed breed dogs is not recommended by the scholarly community. As an owner of a dog deemed to be a banned breed YOU ARE ENTITLED to have your dog independently assessed. BANNED DOGS: In the UK, it’s against the law to own certain types of dog. These are the: Pit Bull Terrier. Japanese Tosa. Dogo Argentino. Fila Brasileiro. 32 years is too long. Time to make a stand. Please sign all these very important petitions. Create new requirements for dogs held under dangerous dogs legislation for when a dog dies in police approved kennels. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/6357… Tysons law. Dog set on fire by police. A call for better welfare standards of seized dogs and police training. chng.it/rwmwp9hr9b Open Keepership for Prohibited Dogs. you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/open… Remove breed specific legislation. SIGNING A DISCLAIMER. We often get contacted by people who have signed something produced to them at the point their dog is being seized but are not sure what it was or when being interviewed at a station. If you are presented with any paperwork or any type of digital device asking for your signature. DO NOT SIGN as this may be a disclaimer. Unless it is your statement given at a station BUT again read through thoroughly first. You are not always told that what you are singing is a disclaimer. You may be told 'it's a only a form to say we have taken your dog' DO NOT SIGN. Read the paperwork thoroughly first, don't be pushed into just signing anything just because the officers are now in a rush to get your dog to the kennels. READ the whole form first. Not all disclaimers are exactly the same either. It is not always clearly stated it is a disclaimer. And may be a tick box you're asked to tick then sign. Whenever there is a tick box read the line of words accompanying the box. There may be more than one tick box and It may say something like 'I wish to relinquish ownership of the dog, so that I am no longer responsibile for it' The other tick box may say 'I understand that by signing this form does not preclude me from being prosecuted' You may sign your dog over allowing it to be destroyed and still be taken to court anyway by signing these forms. By signing this you are transferring or surrendering ownership allowing your dog to be destroyed without the need to go to court. Always ask who the officer in charge is of your case is and can they give you their number or email address. IF YOUR DOG IS ON MEDICATION OR A VETERINARY DIET. If your dog is on prescribed medication or a veterinary prescribed diet. You must inform them at the time of seizure and produce any items given/prescribed by your dogs regular veterinarian. The same applies if your dog has any known allergies. If you have been visited or have been told you will be visited then contact us for FREE confidential advice. We are here to help. 10,000 reached ♥️♥️♥️
Rockys Army Fighting BSL & DDA@rockysarmyvbsl

We have reached the first milestone of 10,000 signatures required to get a response from government.♥️🙏 REMEMBER two people can sign from one email address. Deadline for petition is fast approaching for 29th September 🙏🙏 and you must click the link sent to your email for your signature to count. Dogs have died unnecessarily in police approved kennels. Some never even reached that far. Why in this day and age is animal welfare ignored by those in authority. THESE ARE JUST SOME of the 💔 stories and there is only one to change this law. Sign the petition at the bottom. In 2014. Twenty-two banned-breed dogs were seized on March 27th and put down within a matter of hours. In 2015 District Judge Andrew Shaw said: the dogs were UNLAWFULLY DESTROYED and the police had NO authority to kill them without the backing of a court order. In 2017. Tyson a 10 month old pitbull was set on fire by police whilst being seized. Because officers used equipment they had not been fully trained in the use of. He was later put down. In 2018. An abandoned Caucasian Shepherd dog, dubbed ‘Angel’, was shot dead when she was left tethered to a pole, prompting national outrage. In 2021. Nia and Thor two suspected pitbulls were destroyed after a relative wrongly signed paperwork to surrender ownership. They were only 2 years old. In 2021. Desel the 3 year old Akita was rushed from police approved kennels to a vet and euthanised as nothing could be done to save him. It took the police 6 days to inform his family In 2022. Lucy the 5 year old Great Dane was found dead in police approved kennels. Her family were not even told until almost 4 weeks later and have never had an explanation of why it happened. In 2023. Esco a 3 year old XL Bully was retaken from his police approved kennels to a vet for the 2nd time and euthanised because he was in so much pain. It took the police 7 days to tell his family. In 2023. Marshall and Millions were shot dead. Again prompting national outrage. In 2023. Reefaa n 11 year old and poorly dog in need of an emergency operation and on insulin was still seized and held in kennels. Over a couple of days she started to decline and was rushed to an emergency vets who said no more could be done to save her. She was put to sleep without her family being notified until later that day. These are just a few of the horror stories of dogs needlessly dying because the dangerous dogs act is so badly written with very little guidance on instruction for the police or because of poor police training in equipment they are issued. Today's good news story. This handsome chap is 1 year old Ghost an XL bully who was seized after an accident when he became excited and caused a minor injury. Yesterday the decision was made he would be returned home without having to go to court and a voluntary control order was agreed. And Ghost is now back with his family. Please remember any breed of dog can be seized for any incident even those resulting in an accidental injury or even someone fearing they may be injured. This is still classed as being dangerously out of control. Remember if your dog is seized contact us immediately as early intervention can make all the difference. Today is 7 years since Francis a well behaved soft natured dog who was a stray was destroyed. Francis could not be rehomed. Not because he was naughty. Not because he was vicious, but because of a crazy law in this country says he fits the measurements of a Pitbull. Dogs deemed Pitbull Type can live and go on an exemption register if the owner applies, but sadly strays like Francis, Hillingdon Boy, Ilford Lad and many more are put to sleep because once deemed type only the owner can take a dog through the process. It is illegal for a banned dog to be sold or given away. Francis was a stray and was taken to Battersea but because he was typed he was PTS. Gone but never forgotten x R.I.P FRANCIS you beautiful soul we will not forget you 💔 Dogs seized have also died whilst awaiting court and their families not notified. Time for changes. Dog tasered and shoved in a wheelie bin!!! West midlands police, clearly no lessons have been learned from 4 years ago when Tyson was set on fire whilst being seized. Once again we see famous names jumping on the bandwagon of this story, why? Because there's a video of it and it helps keep them relevant and gets them attention to have their overinflated egos get a little brush. The very same people all ignored Tysons story because there was no video. And the petition then calling for better police training when seizing dogs and better welfare of seized dogs they all ignored. These people are not going to make changes YOU ARE. You are the people that can make the difference, make changes, be the voice of the voiceless. Show your support and solidarity, Dogs have died when being seized. Dogs have died in kennels whilst awaiting court dates.
