Our demands to the Jail Closure Implementation Team and the Board of Supervisors are as follows: 1️⃣ Provide a REAL timeline, with benchmarks for the closure of Men’s Central Jail 2️⃣ NO FUNDING for research, planning, or building a new jail- that money belongs to community!

Monday, March 30th marks the FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the Board of Supervisor’s approving the Men’s Central Jail (MCJ) Closure Report, and the 16th angelversary of John Horton the 3rd who was murdered inside MCJ by Deputy gangs.

Public defenders should not have to choose which constitutional rights to protect and which to neglect. Tomorrow we head into crucial negotiations with LA County and management. We are at a breaking point and we are standing together for our clients & our profession #UnionStrong

LA jails just posted their 10th in-custody death for this year:

Yesterday the LA jails saw their 8th in custody death for this year. I've looked at a lot of years of their death data and if things were to continue at this pace 2026 would easily be the deadliest year in LA jails out of the past two decades.

We are currently on pace to reach 66 deaths in LA Sheriff custody in 2026—all PRE-TRIAL. At what point is @LACountyBOS going to close the deadly Men’s Central Jail like they promised to do six years ago?

Over the past 9 days, DHS agents have shot 4 people. Two are dead. No agents have been arrested or charged.

The LA jails have just posted their 45th in-custody death for the year, a 22 year old man who died in the hospital. It's LASD's 3rd in-custody death in two days.

The LA County jails just posted their 43rd in custody death for this year, and the second in under a week

FOUR people have died in the last SIX days in LA Sheriff’s custody. Four families forever changed just before Christmas. Less than a month ago @LASDHQ were brought to the @LACountyBOS and claimed this crisis would be solved with iPads. It’s time to ACTUALLY close deadly MCJ✊🏾
