@michaelr3848 Yeah, I’ve always been in this camp too. I don’t think it’s that umpiring is worse, as people say — it’s that now we have the strike zone box and a billion replays to dissect each call. Pro sports move at such a fast pace

I want to emphasize this, though: Umpires/refs have such impossible jobs. I’m a big believer that no one call ever truly decides a game. The DR should be more mad at poor situational hitting and a couple missed opportunities on the bases. I’m pro-referee. They get too much hate

Being an umpire is very, very difficult … But the DR got absolutely hosed on two separate called third strikes in huge moments in the final third of that game — including on that last pitch. That just can’t happen.

Skenes is awesome and the guys behind him also shut down a potent DR lineup. The young USA stars shined. DR has so many fun dudes, as does Venezuela. Italy has been such a pleasant surprise. Baseball is in such a great spot. A shame a lockout might halt the momentum.
