Right? At the very least, Tolkien could have included someone who willingly dies for his friends and comes back to life, or maybe a king who takes his place on the throne to bring peace and prosperity, or someone born in obscurity who bears the weight of the world.

I know indie authors like to dunk on Conservative Inc for not giving their books a chance, but my brothers in Christ, they don't read any fiction. At all.

@HumanEvents @JackPosobiec "Lord of the Rings isn't Christian," is one of the stupidest fucking thing I've heard on the internet. This guy would be out of his literary depth in a puddle of horse piss.

Apple's #ForAllMankind has been renewed for Season 6, which will also be its final season. The last season will bring the series into the 2020s, says showrunner Matt Wolpert: “I think from the beginning, the thing that we were focused on, and we didn't know quite how many seasons it would take to get there, was that we wanted to reach the present day. We wanted to tell the arc of the story from the initial divergence of 1969, and then reach the present moment, and see just how different the world we’re in now could have been had we kept pushing for progress and kept pushing forward as a species.” wp.me/pc8uak-1lH3rO

@Romudeth I keep shouting from the rooftops that cinema as a whole peaked in the 90s. Can't change my mind.

@CaptainJackYT There's a ton of excellent Star Trek in existence. If your point is that if we don't support shows like SFA and Disc. we won't get more shows like SFA and Disc.... then, that's good, nothing is lost, the excellent Star Trek is still there to be revisited.

It is depressing & disappointing seeing people "celebrate" the cancellation of a series. Do people not realise this hurts the franchise as a whole? Yes, you can not like something... but is there a need to continually punch it down?? #StarTrek

"Star Trek was always woke!" No, no it wasn't. People will point out the dudes in dresses at the beginning of TNG, but remember those were axed in short order. The heroines in Trek were fully fleshed out human beings with flaws and virtues, not mere shallow power fantasies. Their romances were pretty bog standard hetero stuff. Starfleet officers, male and female, all looked as if they could pass height and weight in a modern military. Body positivity is not a virtue for an organization that has responsibility to conduct wars for the polity it serves, even when its officers claim, occasionally, that it's not a military organization. As far as LGBTQ representation, Dax kissing another woman was a Big Deal, and it was only one episode of DS9 that didn't evolve into an ongoing, impactful relationship. "Well, Star Trek was always progressive for its day!" A stronger argument. It definitely was. I guess progressives used to be better writers who were a bit more in touch with what would and wouldn't breach verisimilitude for a show about astronauts on some kind of star trek. Maybe rather than bitching at everyone else--get good, scrubs.

Iran never used its weaponry until it was attacked unprovoked. Not once in 47 years of sanctions and assassinations. Because they defended themselves against two genocidal maniacs, it means they're the threat? Do you even hear how fucking stupid you sound?
Cernovich@Cernovich

Israel is far from perfect, but now everyone sees what Iran would do with more advanced weaponry. They are attacking Arab nations like a rabid dog. They had missiles that could reach Europe. They lied about everything.

Also, while Christ's ultimate victory is assured--we do have to muddle along until that glorious day, and we are called to resist evil in the mean time. It's even in the baptismal covenant of the Roman Catholic Church and the Lutheran and Anglican derived prot denominations. That requires the accumulation of strength to do so--not for its own sake, but for the service of God's children.

@DavidJohnButler Subbed! I think this an excellent idea, and right on for a lot us who love the wonder of speculative fiction genres, but would like to read (and write) more than empty calories.

I've had a project in the works for a bit now. Today I'm launching a new YouTube channel. The channel is High Low Brow. Its name comes from literary critic William Morris, who used the term to describe *my* fiction (I'm not saying he coined the term for me, I'm saying this is where I first heard it). It means popular art that low brow in form, e.g. genre fiction, but contains elevating elements. I've heard Neal Stephenson describe novels in this space as rollicking adventure tales that also contain big ideas. So on High Low Brow, I'll be talking about the books, music, TV shows, graphic novels, and visual art that I like. I'll interview people who make that art and people who like. High Low Brow. Because culture matters, and I also want to have fun. (links in the replies)

@skumWgmi Doomgagement! On a Friday?? Okay, so, it's not that people don't care, it's that you as the man carry a burden unique to you. Your wife can't carry it. Your kids can't carry it. Your co-workers aren't your family. And so forth. Your Dad (unless he's an a-hole) understands.

CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG BUT, I turn 27 this year and I have realised , as a man, no one cares about you. Not your wife. Not your family. Not your friends. Not your workmates. Nobody. People act like they care, but deep down, they don't. Youare on your own. Always on your own.
