@ACumbow At the time, Smith was the “best” conservative hire. Didn’t see the long term appeal other than getting Chiles and Velling. Fitz is the “next best” conservative hire. If the goal is baby steps, we’re on the right track.

I don’t think a home run candidate existed and I get why some don’t love it especially with how his time at Northwestern ended but I also don’t really get the comparisons to Smith. Knows the Big Ten. Knows the Midwest from a recruiting perspective. Two major differences from Smith. Also someone that has a personality that I think will get along well with donors. Izzo and Dantonio will both love him lol. Franklin and Golesh are two guys I would’ve liked more but I’m on board with the Fitz hire and think he will make MSU football respectable again.
