Here is the true story of Hedgy, whose memory we are keeping alive:
📍 When and Where Did It Happen?
In May 2026, in the gardens of a community hub in Skelmersdale, England.
😔 What Happened to Hedgy?
Three young schoolgirls (aged 10 to 12) brutally mistreated a defenseless hedgehog. They threw him in the air, tossed him down playground slides, and ultimately buried him alive inside a plant pot.
🦸♂️ The Rescue Attempt
Fortunately, two young boys spotted what was happening, stepped in immediately, and stopped them. The community hub staff rescued the little creature and warmly named him "Hedgy."
💔 The Farewell
Hedgy was rushed to the Haydock Hedgehog Helpers Rescue center. He was placed in an incubator and given intensive pain relief treatment. Tragically, his tiny body could not overcome the severe trauma and abuse he suffered. Hedgy closed his eyes to the world on May 19, 2026.
