(1/13) #OTD in 1896, Truus Meijer was born in Alkmaar, the Netherlands. Not a victim of the Nazi's but a brave woman who stood up against them. And by doing that she saved more than 10.000 Jewish children. The sad thing is that so many people, even Dutch, never heard of her ⬇️

@_samhowell @AuschwitzMuseum They did stay together and got murdered in Auschwitz, October 10th in 1942. Maria was my fathers sister. I loved my little cousins. Her husband Louis was murdered in Auschwitz, January 31 in 1943.

27 January 1939 | A Dutch Jewish girl, Margaretha Beatrice Swartberg, was born in Groningen. In October 1942 she was deported to #Auschwitz with her mother Maria Sara and younger sister Judith Josephine. Most probably they were murdered together in a gas chamber after selection.

@RaeSwift14 @AuschwitzMuseum My aunt Maria and her little daughters were killed October 10th in 1942 in Auschwitz. My uncle Louis also in Auschwitz in January 31 in 1943.

27 stycznia 1939 | W Groningen urodziła się holederska Żydówka Margaretha Beatrice Swartberg. W październiku 1942 r. deportowana do #Auschwitz z matką Marią Sarą oraz młodszą siostrą Judith Josephine. Najprawdopodobniej razem zostały zamordowane w komorze gazowej po selekcji.

29 September 1944 | A Czech Jew, Pavel Friedman (b. 1921), was deported to #Auschwitz from Theresienstadt Ghetto. He did not survive. On 4 June 1942 in the ghetto he wrote a poem titled "Butterfly". --- The last, the very last, So richly, brightly, dazzlingly yellow. Perhaps if the sun's tears would sing against a white stone... Such, such a yellow Is carried lightly ‘way up high. It went away I'm sure because it wished to kiss the world goodbye. For seven weeks I've lived in here, Penned up inside this ghetto But I have found my people here. The dandelions call to me And the white chestnut candles in the court. Only I never saw another butterfly. That butterfly was the last one. Butterflies don't live in here, In the ghetto.

@Juut36 @AuschwitzMuseum First of all, good to hear your father was a survivor! I hope he was able to have some happiness in his life, knowing what happened to his family.. And, if I'm right, Sara was also murdered in Auschwitz.😢💔

@shannara77 @AuschwitzMuseum I do have this foto too in my album. It shows the bride Marie Swartberg- Gosler, (my fathers sister )and the groom Louis Swartberg. At Louis side is Sara Gosler, (the youngest sister)and at Marie’s side is Louis’s sister Jetta who became a Gosler by marrying Maurice Gosler.

Na een mooie pot verliezen de @waterpolodames van thuisland Hongarije (13-12). Zij waren in de tweede helft van de wedstrijd net een klein tikkie beter dan NL. Zaterdag om 14.30u wacht Italië in de strijd om het brons. @erikvandijknos en ik zijn er weer bij! #FINABudapest2022
