@ZachGorchow I was in band in high school and we played that theme song at our school’s hockey games.

This insanely talented team, the Edmonton Oilers, was on my TV. This Wayne Gretzky, wow. And these announcers, Bob Cole, Harry Neale, Chris Cuthbert and more, they were great to listen to. This Don Cherry guy is nuts. The theme song — was this what people thought of Beethoven?

Suddenly, in the 1986-87 season, the Red Wings became good. With all the Canadian boys on the team, plus the Wings fan base in southern Ontario, the Wings showed up on Hockey Night in Canada - a lot. It was like the Lions on Monday Night Football.
