Jay Clark St Kilda star Tom De Koning was put through a last-minute fitness test before the loss to Melbourne on Sunday after battling a virus late last week. The Herald Sun can reveal the Saints were unsure he was going to play until about one hour before the game started after battling flu-like symptoms on Friday and Saturday. The Saints’ ruckman failed to complete training on Friday and was sent home from Moorabbin in a bid to recover in time for the clash against Melbourne at the MCG. De Koning was desperate to play in the clash as the Saints were already without fellow big man Rowan Marshall (concussion), meaning it would have left young ruckman Isaac Keeler to take on Max Gawn.

I believe at 29 years of age Riley Meredith should be right in the frame to play in Australian colours in all 3 formats.
