@JJFilson A lot of people would rather see the locomotive operational. The Railroaders Memorial Museum has already mentioned they have commitments from a variety of railroads to host 1361, once it’s operational. Many of us remember when it was on display at the curve and it deteriorated.

@K4s1361 It was such a brief resurrection & such local operation that they could have left it like it was at the Horseshoe Curve & few would know the difference. Thanks for the photo. They are rare.

[Photo Credit: Carl Weber] PRR 1361 at Milesburg, PA on 7/26/1987. From Trains Magazine’s March 2026 issue about the restoration, here’s where the project stands. The firebox and boiler are nearing completion. The next major objective is to mount the boiler on 1361’s frame.

Running gear work will be the focus of attention in 2026. The Railroaders Memorial Museum aims to assemble a traditional Tuscan red passenger train featuring the observation car Mountain View and heavyweight Pullman Union League Club (now awaiting full restoration).

Tonight (January 13th, 2026) at 6:30pm, there will be a presentation including the status of the PRR 1361 restoration. Address for the Hoss’s Steak & Sea House is 61 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 (just outside of Harrisburg, PA)
