New this afternoon: Coconino head varsity boys basketball coach Cooper Elliott is stepping down after four years as head coach and one as an assistant. Elliott led the Panthers to the Open Division Tournament and a Grand Canyon Region Championship with a 12-0 mark this year.

Quentin Moten is heading to the Canadian Football League’s Ottawa Redblacks after an All-American 2025 season in Flagstaff.

As two NAU graduates who get to continue to call Flagstaff home, we feel so fortunate to cover local sports and be part of this incredible community. A special thank you as well to the NAU Sports and Adventure Media program for its continued partnership on our broadcasts.

With the 2025-26 sports season mostly in the books, we wanted to take a moment to thank the community for their support. To the schools, administrators, parents, coaches, players, NAU Athletics, our sponsors and the community at large, we are so grateful.

On the baseball side, Flagstaff's Will Carpenter has been named 4A Offensive Player of the Year.

Cailee Culwell has been named 4A Conference Player of the Year. It's the second consecutive year that a Flagstaff-area softball player has earned this honor. Coconino's Kaitlyn Tso won the award last season.

Coconino softball's playoff run came to an end yesterday, just short of the semifinals. The Panthers lost 4-1 to No. 6 Cactus Shadows. NPA baseball dropped a close game last week to No. 1 Scottsdale Christian, losing 3-2.

Flagstaff softball has been eliminated after losing to Arcadia 4-1 yesterday. The Eagles end the season 24-6, clinching their first Grand Canyon Region/Section softball title since 2011.

Coconino softball is still alive in the 4A State tournament! The defending champions defeated No. 3 Sahuarita 14-4. The Panthers are awaiting their next opponent and will next play on Tuesday, May 12.

Neither team is eliminated just yet. The tournament becomes double-elimination after the first round. The Eagles will take on No. 5 Arcadia down in the Valley tomorrow. The Panthers will match up with No. 3 Sahuarita on the road tomorrow. Both games start at 4 p.m.

In yesterday's 4A State Softball Tournament action: No. 8 Flagstaff lost to No. 1 Salpointe Catholic 13-0. No. 10 Coconino lost to No. 2 Mica Mountain 7-2.

Flagstaff baseball lost 6-5 to Cactus Shadows in extra innings.

In playoff action this morning: Flagstaff softball defeated Crismon 12-11 and will travel to No. 1 Salpointe Catholic on May 5. Coconino softball beat Ironwood Ridge 6-5 and will play No. 2 Mica Mountain on the road May 5.

We have playoff softball on tap this morning, as Flagstaff gets set to take on the Crismon Rattlers in the first round of the 4A State Tournament. Tune in on The Legend 93.5/AM930 or kaffsports.com starting at 10:45. Michael Manny and Drake Cluff have the call.

No. 16 NPA baseball also has made it into the 2A bracket and will play No. 1 Scottsdale Christian on the road.

No. 10 Flagstaff baseball will play No. 7 Cactus Shadows down in the Valley.

The 4A softball and baseball brackets have been revealed. No. 8 Flagstaff softball will host No. 9 Crismon. No. 10 Coconino will travel to play No. 7 Ironwood Ridge.
