NAU Athletics has found its next leader. Dr. Richard Duran has been named Vice President and Director of Athletics. Duran arrives in Flagstaff from Incarnate Word. He will be introduced in a Press Conference on June 29. His first day will be July 16, pending ABOR approval.

Cade Bennett is the newest member of NAU men’s basketball’s incoming transfer class. Cade is the son of new Arizona State men’s basketball head coach Randy Bennett.

Hard work pays off 🙌 After tearing his ACL and MCL in October 2024, Jackson Clouse faced a long road back to the sports he loves. The injury forced him to miss his sophomore baseball season, junior football season, and junior wrestling season, but it never changed his commitment to his team. Rather than stepping away, Jackson remained deeply involved in his school’s athletic programs, serving on the training staff during football season while dedicating himself to rehab and recovery. Day after day, he put in the work with one goal in mind: getting back on the field. His perseverance paid off in the spring of 2026. Less than a year removed from a devastating knee injury and surgery, Jackson earned a starting outfield position, was voted a team captain, hit .392 at the plate, launched an inside-the-park home run in the season finale, and earned 2nd Team All-Grand Canyon Region honors. But Jackson’s comeback is about more than statistics. Through every setback, he continued showing up for his teammates, coaches, and school community. His leadership, resilience, and selfless attitude made him a role model long before he returned to competition. “Preparation met opportunity this spring.” Jackson’s journey is a powerful reminder that adversity doesn’t define an athlete. Schools from all over Arizona have descended upon NAU for today’s 7-on-7 action. The tournament was delayed a bit due to lightning, but teams are back on the field. Flagstaff and Coconino are getting set for action in a little bit.
