🚨 John Lineker is among six fighters released by ONE Championship, the Bangkok Post understands. The former bantamweight MMA champion had also been handed a one-year suspension after testing positive for tamoxifen and metandienone. Tamoxifen is listed as an anti-oestrogenic substance, while metandienone – also known as Dianabol – is an anabolic androgenic steroid. Danny Kingad, Kang Ji Won, Eddie Abasolo, Ali Saldoev and Taylor McClatchie have also been cut from the roster. All six fighters were informed of their release on Friday morning, and told they could be welcomed back to the promotion should they gain momentum elsewhere, company sources said. Lineker’s exit is the most high-profile of the latest releases. The 35-year-old Brazilian won the bantamweight MMA title by knocking out Bibiano Fernandes in 2022, but was later stripped after missing weight for his first fight with Fabricio Andrade. He lost the rematch to Andrade in 2023, briefly reinvented himself in Muay Thai and kickboxing, then suffered three straight defeats in the striking sports. Kingad’s release ends a long run for one of ONE’s most established flyweight MMA contenders, while Kang exits after two straight losses in ONE and three defeats in his last four. Abasolo has been cut after three consecutive losses, Saldoev after back-to-back defeats, and McClatchie after losing two of her last three bouts. I’m begging mma fans to stop talking about fighters like they have set archetypes in ufc undisputed 2009. There is way too much variety and skillsets that all of these guys to where you can’t just boil them down to just being strikers like you could in the 2000’s.
