KAPSARC and @Kayrros have released updated satellite-based methane emissions estimates for MENA countries, including Saudi Arabia.
The results again show Saudi Arabia’s methane emissions are lower than many external estimates. Encouragingly, the data also suggest the start of a convergence, as external datasets move closer to satellite-based measurements.

#KAPSARC examines solid based low temperature DAC across combinations of heat sources. The strongest results emerge when industrial waste heat is paired with renewable electricity and battery storage.
Waste heat combined with wind and battery storage achieves a net carbon removal fraction of 99.2%, while waste heat with solar photovoltaic and battery storage reaches 98.9%, making these the most effective configurations assessed. In contrast, grid electricity with electric boilers delivers substantially lower net removal.

Saudi Arabia is working to address the high cost of water system inefficiencies. A significant share of produced water is lost before reaching consumers, while current tariffs recover only a fraction of desalination costs—placing sustained pressure on public finances.
The Kingdom's Loss Reduction Program aims to substantially reduce system losses over the coming years, improving infrastructure performance and strengthening cost recovery. By enhancing efficiency across the water network, the program supports greater energy savings, fiscal resilience, and long-term water security.

Saudi Arabia has limited natural freshwater resources and therefore relies heavily on seawater desalination to meet growing residential demand. Per-capita domestic water use is relatively high compared to international averages, influenced by climatic conditions, pricing structures, and system losses.
The Saudi government has launched an investment program aimed at reducing water system losses from 36% in 2024 to 15% by 2031. This paper estimates the program’s impact on domestic water demand, desalination costs, and fiscal liabilities.

A new Forest Industry Lens has been introduced to the Circular Carbon Economy Index to benchmark circularity in forest industries across 30 major producer countries, covering 93% of global production of semi-finished wood products and 90% of industrial roundwood.
Using the 4Rs framework, it assesses raw material efficiency (Reduce), the share of recovered and reusable material used in production (Reuse), the share of recovered and recycled paper used in paper production (Recycle), and the production of long-lived wood products that store carbon for decades (Remove). This approach creates a comparable view of where progress is strong and where the biggest gaps remain, enabling priorities to be set with clearer evidence.

The year 2025 marked the fifth anniversary of the Circular Carbon Economy (CCE) Index. This edition features a major update to the framework, adding four new indicators and revising 13 others. Drawing on five years of data collection, analysis, and stakeholder engagement, the CCE Index now provides a robust framework for tracking global progress toward net zero.
The latest results highlight four key messages:
- Countries need holistic net-zero strategies to advance emissions circularity.
- Closing performance gaps requires stronger policy environments and scaled-up clean technologies and finance.
- Developing countries need greater implementation support to accelerate CCE transitions.
- Energy security must be multi-dimensional, grounded in availability, stability, and fiscal sustainability.

في "رؤية على الأحداث"، يستعرض باحثا كابسارك -أحمد البلوي ومحمد عدنان حياة- ديناميكيات النمو في مشروعات تخزين الطاقة بالبطاريات، والعوامل المحفزة لازدهار سوق تخزين الطاقة في المملكة.
تأتي المملكة في المرتبة الثالثة عالميًا من حيث السعات التخزينية المعلنة، بإجمالي 22 جيجاواط في الساعة، مع هدف طموح للوصول إلى 48 جيجاواط في الساعة بحلول عام 2030، في ظل توسع الطاقة المتجددة والانخفاض الكبير في تكاليف البطاريات عالميًا.

As Saudi Arabia’s public #EV charging market shifts from free access to paid pricing, a growing charging divide is emerging, with cost differences increasingly determined by access to home charging.
Between June and December 2025, major charging operators introduced public tariffs of around SAR 0.65 per kWh for AC (alternating current) and SAR 0.99 per kWh for DC (direct current) fast charging. At these rates, public charging is up to four times more expensive than charging at home under residential electricity tariffs.
With 46% of homes classified as infrastructure-constrained, the analysis estimates a 6% total cost premium over a 10-year ownership period for drivers without home charging.
